Safe to say Dave Stringer is out of the equation Neil Adams eh? He talks a superb game and comes over really well bit I fear, as do others, that the former player route could lead to further hard times. There is no easy answer mate, we are Norwich City and staying in the PL is an achievement in itself under the current climate and slightly tilted playing field that exists - more's the pity. I would love to see us back where we were 20 years ago but in my heart I know it's never likely to happen
I hate the old 'You don't know anything about football if you don't agree with me' thing. The goal this season is to stay up, no matter how. I'm fairly confident CH will deliver on that and then have the money next season to improve us, I can see Hughton is trying to make us into a solid and stable premier side, it's just not quite there yet. But hey, that's just my opinion. If you don't agree with me, doesn't mean you know nothing about football
I think give him the summer at least, and see what happens by about October. We appear to be the only fans who think Norwich are still embroiled in the relegation dogfight, speak to most other clubs' fans and it's Villa, Wigan or perhaps Newcastle. We've got 2 games where we really need 2 points minimum, and then we're safe. Our home form has been a lot better than away, and the atmosphere with PL back should help too. If Hughton can transform our attack like our defence, then I'm happy to keep him. If we continue to play 4-2-3-1, I really think Snodgrass and Johnson could be the only regulars from this season who've still got a starting berth in the 2-3-1 bit. RvW is a massive signing, I think we'll see "Left-sided-Snodgrass" arrive to give us a bit more balance and threat from both sides. Then "Newlahan" to challenge Wessi and bring pace, perhaps height (Yeah, sorry Carrabuh...) but hopefully also the same, if not higher, quality of link-up play we currently see. Then we sign "Biglia" to tie the team together, and offer creativity from a deeper position, and solidity too. If we can make the correct 3 signings to give us a really good front line, then I think an improved style should come from having better players. Hughton hasn't signed a striker whose overriding characteristics are strength and aerial ability, like Carroll, we've got a proper footballing striker, who also happens to not be too shabby in the air. if he plays like he is in Portugal, he'll undoubtedly be the best player in our side, and Hughton would be a fool to fail to build a side around him.
To be honest, I've never seen the value of allowing a manager to spend £25M in the summer and sack him 2 months later. The new guy has got nowhere to go. Although of course, if he does do it he could go further with a bit of money. Both Worthington and Lambert took over in a crisis and their contributions to NCFC are enorthmous.
Yes , all well here, I hope with you too. Not going to rant and rave but just cannot bare to watch the absolute ****e that is served up every week by CH's Norwich City. Don't believe all of last years hero's became useless in the closed season, can only mean one thing CH is to blame ( I suspect a lifelong binners supporter) Even in the 10 game un beaten run (4 draws, 6 wins) we were not playing good football, we were some what fortunate in several games. I for one am not looking forward to watching another season of this. retain PL status and then look to replace CH. I know many will say this is short sighted but what has CH done this season that suggests we should keep him?????
Well said, DH. Any manager needs at least two years to get his team going (this is also true of PL at Villa, IMO). With RvW and other new arrivals, particularly the creative attacking Newlahan you mention, it could be truely 'a whole new ball game' next year.
Beat Man United (The Champions) Arsenal, Spurs, Everton, going on a 10 game unbeaten run and probably keeping us up. I think that's more than enough to give him a bit more time. I'm not saying everything is perfect, because it is not, there's a lot to improve on. But I think all this hate and people wanting CH to go is a bit unfair for a manager who is most likely going to keep us up.
This is very true. I'll reiterate what I've said before, there is a distinct lack of blaming the players amongst the supporters. Everyone knows who is to blame
So we beat Man. Utd, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton, any of the them but large margin? No, did we play them off the park? No, hence the phrase 'somewhat fortunate' I watched these games and yes it was good to win but an element of luck was there. Even so IMO ( I hope I am allowed my opinion) this is not evidence of good management by CH. We have a revamped back 4 let in as many as last year’s back four (so no improvement) not going to blame the keeper. We have absolutely no attacking threat (unlike last year) so who do you blame? Down to tactics? To the greater degree yes (manager) Motivation? A manager has to motivate the players to give their best (like Lambert did for us for 3 years) the name is 'Manager' he is the man in charge he must take the blame. We are now the worst football team in the PL. I don't believe we have the worst players, only a manger that has no idea what he is doing.
Hughtons teams certainly play the most negative and boring football of any of the Norwich manager I have seen. Not to register a shot on target against two of your relegation rivals is unheard of anywhere. To be fair to him his teams are very good at stopping the other team attacking and can contain teams for large parts of games. However, if you don't ever score or ever look like scoring then it only takes one mistake/lack of concentration and you lose the game (Wigan/Stoke). Our players do a good job of absorbing pressure but in this league we're unlikely to be able to nullify the opposition for a full 90 minutes, especially if the games still there to be won for the opposition. Lambert realized that with our players that the best form of defense was attack and that its much easier to stop the opposition scoring from a winning position. I heard Rob Butler say Lambert is doing worse than Hughton this season but Hughton inherited a team that finished with 9 points above what we currently have and was given decent money to invest (which hes done well), whilst Lambert had to completely revolutionized Aston Villla. If they do stay up I think he will take them onwards and upwards. Also did anyone notice the Norwich "team spirit" that was evident in everything the players said for the last 3 years vanished about 10 games into Hughton reign. What frustrates me as I watch the games is that Hughtons team never looks like it has any attacking nous. The players were one of the top scoring teams last season so where has that creativity gone because it hasnt been visible in something like the last 20games. Theres only so much defending can do and if you defend too much eventually you hand the impetus over to the other team. I definitely dont want to risk having him here next season. He sorted the defence out after 8 games and has has time to work on the attack from then but its actually been in a state of decline. Don't see why his tactics would change next season despite what some people say and I don't like the idea of having to change manager half way through next year when its too late. Also Kamara, yes he works hard but he offers nothing really in terms of creativity and is the wrong path to go down. Premiership defenders are used to playing against Suarez, Bale, Van Persie etc so for all his enthusiasm, I think signing him would be a massive mistake. Bar Everton his contribution had been very very little.
We have heard so many times that he has sorted the defence out. What he has done is stick two guys inches in front of the back four and even wide players like Pilks and Snodgrass spend a lot of their time supporting the two full backs. That is not a tactic. It is strategy.
I don't think we'll sign Kamara. Lets be honest, even though Hughton is not helping him in the slightest, he's crap
If Roeder was your manager he'd have you playing non league football. You can't compare him to CH (a proper gentleman) who'd be better than a dozen Roeders.
I don't really care if it's a big margin win or, a win is a win and SAF even said we were the better team when we beat them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there seem to be a lot of over the top reactions, anyone reading this forums would think we're already relegated (which we've never really looked like doing all season). Of course there's a lot of improvements to be made, signing Wolfswinkel proves CH is thinking about improving the attack for next season. Personally think he will sign more top quality players in the summer.
It's a bit Catch-22 I agree. You need to be 100% behind a manager, and I still believe Hughton has that from our board. He did very well in last summer's transfer window, with far less preparation than he's had for this one, so I think backing him with the funds should pay off in getting decent players, for sensible sums, into our club. Ideally you'd then hope Hughton kicks on with 'his' squad and our style and results improve. But if not, I was suggesting October as it gives a new guy plenty of time to know his squad before January. You can't withhold the funds from Hughton this summer, because it's when prices are best, and he's more likely to succeed if given the full budget.
All those achievements you've listed in your previous comments happened in the first half of the season. It's the first half of the season which is pretty much keeping us up as a form in the last 5 months has been poor. What has Hughton done in that 5 months to try and pick up more points? Progressively got more and more defensive, and our attacking potent has just got worse and worse. I actually cannot see how Wolfswinkel will fit into any tactic Hughton plays to be honest, which makes me worry.
Totally agree with this. Why is my reaction over the top, we could still get relegated , we are by no means safe. As YL said those wins were half a season ago we have progressively got worse and worse. In fact the minute we are safe CH should get the bullit giving more time to find the right manager who could use Wolfeswinkle in the best way.
