Is Harry the right man for next season? Thoughts please. BR: You had two threads posted with the same (original) title NLQPR. Thinking this was caused by the site's current systematic problems, deleted the other one. Now realise it might have been active. If so, my apologies to all concerned.
100% yes. The last thing we need is a change of Manager. We need some consistency for a change and he knows how bad the problems are now. He is the only person with any chance of sorting out.
No, we cant sack him and I dont think he resign so we are stuck with him, hes proven he cant get this squad playing together so either we need to get rid of 10 players or change the manager. Of course getting rid of him means its very likely Cotterill is appointed and thats a very scary proposition.
Yes we need to keep Harry. Its not his fault weve gone down. We had 4pts after 14 games when he took over and had to take over a team which the majority were Hughes useless signings. Seems to have a good backroom team and we need continuaty into next season.
As I see it Redknapp is our best chance of bouncing straight back up, but not our best chance of actually building a proper football club, something we discarded a while ago. I'd be happy to build slowly and return when the foundations are solid, I can't see Tony Fernandes agreeing.
Im not sure he is the right man, some of his tactics and substitutions have baffled me, but I dont think we can have yet more upheaval a new man would result in. So, Im happy to give him a go.
If we have learnt anything from this nightmare two years, it is surely that the grass isn't always greener.......so Harry should stay and build on what he has learnt in the last 5 months, get rid where he can, and keep and harness the players who are the heart of this club.
Not convinced I must admit - Have we been that much better under Harry?? I do however think his famous wheeling and dealing will help sort out the squad for next season.
Yes. He has the conections and the ability. I also think his pride has been hurt and he has a point to prove. How he can deal with the lazy, slack f&&kers that form part of the squad, I don't know, but he should be given the chance.
He'll have a point to prove and will want to be seen as someone who can get us back in the premier league. It will earn him great respect
Dont understand people who want him to go to be honest. What can he do? He took over a divided squad (with massive issues) and a team who hadnt won a match in 13 games. That tells you something drastic is wrong. He isnt a miracle worker. Even the length of time he has had was never going to solve all our issues, and they have been to big to brush under the carpet and enable us to survive. Ok in a few games tactics have been questionable, and so have some subs, but I wont hold that against him. He has had a massive job trying to manage this group of players, and quite frankly I think getting 21 points from this squad is good (in a way!!) seeing as half of them couldnt give a toss. HR has got Pompey out of the NPC before, and with the summer to rebuild and get rid of the guys who dont care this can be solved. Look what Wolves did - change their manager 3 times in the weeks leading up to relegation and during the NPC season - they are now relegated again.
I agree, I have not been impressed with him. He stopped the rot, we stopped letting in goals for a while, but why when he found a successful way of playing as against Chelsea, didn't he use it again in a more attacking version. We actually played better football under Hughes early this season, with Harry we haven't even managed that. If he gets offered another PL job and takes it, I won't be at all surprised, and won't be too bothererd either if TF brings in someone who can get most of our players who can pass a ball and win the Championship, to do just that.
What Roller said. But even if, by some miracle, we do get promoted next season, I don't think we will be in a much stronger position back in the prem.
Capable strikers aside, it's not the players we need to worry about re. competing next term, it's the manager. As organiser and driving force, the gaffer's key. Ain't many NPC legends are there - and 'Arry's better known as a third tier champ. If he decides to break contract, fine but all the signs are 'Arry's staying put for the time being. We need to stabilise anyway - and he been around long enough to have some idea of how to reconstitute. Whilst I'm not convinced about 'Arry, he's what we've got so he'll have to do for now. Besides, unfinished business. He'll want to show himself if not just us that he is the right man.
If we don't stick with HR consider the alternatives, Cotterill, O'Neil et al. Give Harry a chance, it's a massive task but if Harry willing to roll his sleeves up, we should back him.
