Speaking of Dobbie and Orlandi, Dobbs scored for Palace yesterday and Orlandi laid on the winner for Brighton with a pinpoint cross. The Spaniard says he's loving it at Brighton, as manager, Gus Poyet, showed faith in him from day one and continues to do so. He went on to say that it was the first time in this country that any manager has done this and he has rewarded Poyet for his confidence with many consistent and often, classy displays. As for Sincs, he seems to divide opinion. Personally I will always be grateful to him for the huge part he played in getting us where we are now. I doubt we would have made it without his goals. As for his move to Citeh, can he be blamed for giving it a shot? Rumours have it that he was under girlfriend pressure to move north; facts have it that he earned a massive increase in wages.. Also, he probably hoped that the huge quality in the players around him would have brought out that much more in his game to make a success of things. It didn't work out. But he had a try and scratched the itch. In this day and age, player loyalty does not exist, unfortunately. They are all mercenaries out to make as much money as they can, enthusiastically aided and abetted by their parasites, known as agents. Sincs was no more, no less guilty in this context than any other professional footballer. Therefore, the pros, in my opinion, far outweigh the cons. His goals were a huge factor in our promotion and we banked a fat profit from his sale that helped swell our transfer kitty. Would I have him back? In a word, yes. But the transfer fee and his wages would have to be right and I can't see that he would agree to a cut having got used to banking the big bucks. On the other hand, if he wants a decent chance of a game with players and a system he knows......
Which is why I think a loan deal would be perfect for us, as it would show that he wants to play regular football, while keeping the wages he's being paid at City.
Ivor, my neighbour is a Brighton fan. We were talking in the garden, as you do, and asked him how Orlandi was doing. He reckons that he's player of the season for them. He went down last week, and he said Orlandi ran the show. He's tending to play in a similar style as Michu, as an attacking midfielder. I really hope that Brighton go up their a good club. I thought we should have held onto Orlandi, I feel his game was more suited to the PL. Wish the lad well.
I can see both sides - Dai is right that we should always keep in mind what players have done for us. Sinclair was the singlest biggest factor in getting us up (the goals he scored - especially under pressure) and, even when he was sure to leave, he played and scored against QPR. No pulling out to avoid jeopardising his move. He played. He was professional.. And he moved giving us a huge profit. Still, I do wish Dai would be equally as fair and even-handed to our current players. He wasn't that great during the year i the Prem. He started brightly, but didn't get the goal, and that seemed to knock his confidence. He improved a little at the end of the year but selling him wasn'ta huge problem for the club. Unlike Allen, I think he would have actually been far better off going to a club like Liverpool that would give him a real go (They have given Allen a good shot, he just hasn't been quite as good as he couldn have been). It was very frustrating because he hadn't learnt. All the lip-service he paid to wanting to play was gone when he was offered all that money. Silly because it is really taking a short term approach. Sure he got a 3/4 year contract and when he is sold he prob wont lose any of that money, but it was selling a year or two of his career at a key time. What if he had kicked on for Swansea? What if he'd found his feet and maybe showed a bit more of the championship form? Would he be knocking on the door for England? Lallana got a chance - why not an in-form Sinclair? Unlike centre mid with Britton, Left mid is a position players can shoot for for England. It was just very frustrating because it was the same mistake again. I wish him well but the whole thing was very frustrating - and that frustration is because, after all he did for us, we wanted to see him do well. I mean, sign for Spurs, Arsenal, Everton etc and he might've had a chance. That whole "highlight of my career" thing was really him trying to ingratiate himself with the fans - that's all I see it as. Fifteen years time he'll only be pointing at a hattrick at wembley. Besides, he's allowed his own POV - even if it's clearly bollox. That said, I found the move ver
This is the problem with a lot of folk these days, they measure success, by the size of their bank balance! But that is simply flawed, and he'll realise that when he looks back on his career in his old age, and as for his game time girls, don't make me laugh!.....................
please log in to view this image ............... Top post this, and how I see it too, though I couldn't be bothered to explain the obvious, but well said Goodland, though for me Bonymaen's 'Plumb' will do nicely too!..................
Sorry Ivor, but don't agree with you on having Sinclair back, he was very poor in his last season with us, and should have been dropped to the bench by Rodgers on many occasions, he lost his way, and simply couldn't handle most back lines in the Premier league. He's a good Championship winger, who has not made the step up yet as far as I see it, and he's not likely to, sitting on the bench at Citeh!.....................

I can't take too much of a moral high-ground because i am one of those infuriated by Rodgers, but I do think there was a difference in the way the two of them went about it. But I won't get started - with the links in the press, maybe Sinclair will be crossing his fingers that his old manager will join him! (PS - I really don't see that happening)

Nothing flawed with that mate. Different strokes for different folks thats all. Some people are motivated by money others by power or status and so on. Will Sinclair have any regrets maybe with hindsight yes. Can you imagine how regretful he would be if he hadn't taken what could have been his only opportunity at a big money move to the top team in the country. You only get one chance in this life and you should make the most of it while you can!
