Great video on Player of the rise of Spiderman. Lots of info, game play and positivity. have to go outso can't post more, but don't miss it!!
Not much he hasn't said before, about what it was like to arrive in England and go through the leagues and him improving his diet and fitness and so on. One bit that is new I think is that he said when Cortese arrived he had an offer for Schneiderlin from another club, and he invited him to his office and rejected the offer with him sitting there, and told him he wanted him to be part of the club for the future. How could you dream of leaving after something like that?
Also said that Cortese told him about his plans and he has delivered. Morgan then added...He told me about the next plans when I re-signed and they are great!! And he couldn't speak much English when he arrived so he only listened to TV and Music in English (are you listening, Mauricio).
Summary: He didnât know the background situation when he signed for Saints Liked Jan Poortvliet, he had good ideas but was inexperienced and the English Championship needs experience. When Saints were going down, he remembers there were some big arguments between players, everyone was worrying about how it would affect their families and were concerned for the club. Cortese had an offer from a club for Morgan, he called Morgan in and rejected the offer right in front of Schneiderlinâs face and said âMorgan, I know you are just 18 â but you are going to grow with this club, just like Adam Lallanaâ Nicola doesnât just say things, he does them â and he does them in front of you Believed the ambition when Lambert signed, and the likes of Lallana also committed to the club In League One he couldnât finish a game without being tired after 50 minutes In England, it is so different how you play â it is so open When I came, I was alone and 18 and my lifestyle wasnât the same as it is now After a game, I did not know what to do â ony mday off, maybe I did not do the right thing His family told him he had to get it sorted He had a nutritionist provided to bring food to his house, and felt like a different man It was a big thing to get my first goal, I wanted to improve my game in this area The goal made me score all the ones since, it was a nice goal as well, I was very happy I had no doubt that we would compete in the Championship Everyone was saying to me, do you think you can stay up and go for the Premier League? I told them, âYeah, youâll see, youâll seeâ¦â My French friends didnât believe me, I told them âyou will seeâ We were always in the top two, it was just a normal thing I knew 100% we would go up after we played Leeds United away, Kelvin was amazing but we didnât play well At 4-0 up against Coventry, I looked up and around me and thought âwow, this is amazingâ and we just kept the ball It was amazing, the dream came true and you just think about everything that had happened and think âhappy daysâ We knew before the game, at 8am I knew I had no pressure on me. People were saying âMorgan, itâs the game of your life, whatâs wrong?â but I felt no pressure, I knew we were strong. Coventry had nothing to lose, but we knew that if we played 90+ of our best we would win This summer, I enjoyed a few weeks but then I told myself it was time to do the right things I told myself âthis is my yearâ Leading up to Manchester City, I was nervous, thinking âcan we cope against them?â The day before that game is the most nervous I have been all-season Now a game in Premier League for me is just like Championship or League One, just another game Think we lost a lot of those early games because we were thinking too much about it In League One to Championship, we thought we would do well In Championship to Premier League, we thought weâd be the new Swansea â but it doesnât work like that I never thought we would get relegated, but you just question yourself When we lost against West Ham 4-1, we were 15 or 16 points behind them and you think âoh godâ and hope we are not going to be the next Derby County with low points We knew that we were better than Reading, we knew that we were better than Sunderland, how could we lose that game to them? This second part of the season, we are a lot stronger Before, we won some games, but we missed things But now, even Wigan and United away â we showed how far we had come Even last week from Swansea, they had 15 minutes at the start and 25 at the end and we would have lost that game before It shows how far we have come, we did not have any experience Now we all know what we need to do in certain circumstances I am happy because I think I improve every single game But I know I have two or three steps to progress That will come with matches, I am only 23 years old and I just donât want to stop This year, ok I had a good season, but next year I want to be even better For me, next year is the real time to prove myself to everyone Everything Nicola promised to me happened, and if everything that he said to me when I signed my new contract happens, it will be even better Big things are going to happen to Southampton in the next three years Next year will be a big season for us We will sign other quality players, to add to the squad I am sure there are plenty of good things coming for Southampton I hope we can finish top ten this season, that was our aim Then next season, the next step. Finish Top 6. I am sure people will say âno chance, no top sixâ and laugh at me We have shown that even against the big teams we can do it Now we need to do it against all the other teams, teams that are under us We will next year I like this city, I know every place I say to those people, keep laughing, we will see who is laughing in the end
Only DTLW could do a summary that is longer than the video It is even better in Morgan's lovely accent....Mrs Godders must have needed smelling salts. I loved the bit about Nicola's promises when he signed again...exciting times.
I had to avoid putting words in his mouth, so ended up replaying it to check. I'm just a good egg, trying to be helpful
You know, the journey we've been on as fans over the last five years, from our very lowest point to now................just imagine what its like for the players who have done that, just incredible. The loyalty shown by Morgan & Adam restores faith in the modern game. Funny how in L1 we always knew we had a special group, & they have taken us so far, & yet still have much further to go. Good times people, good times.
On the BBC preview of the match, it is pointed out that two years ago we were playing Hartlepool with several players still in our present team. No wonder we got a double promotion...we were in league 1 with PL standard players!
I only have DTLW's transcript to go by, but that is such a brilliant interview, shows the character of both the man and the club. This is my favourite: "I say to those people, keep laughing, we will see who is laughing in the end". Wow. I have this vision of Morgan playing in the team that secures Champions League football standing on the sidelines singing "Sha-na-na--na-na--na-na--na". You know the rest.
