Or the paper has got the wrong end of the stick about the £4M fee and has connected it to Stockdale rather than the incoming keeper.
What a bargain Stockdale would be for 4mil, once again you would financially be mugging us, look at the last time you turned us over buying Jimmy some body or other.
We have all seen Vito in his two spells with us but SB and his staff haven't so in their eyes he is no different to any other keeper.I am sure they will have some target.Maybe even an Egyptian.
Nope. I like him too! Looks assured, confident and the defence seem to like playing infront of him. Made some vital saves, I to be honest think he's better than vito... stockdale in my eyes is much more consistent and less mistake prone
Arf. Well I can cast iron guarantee we will pay nothing like that for him. I wonder if anyone will gpo for Rob Green this summer? He'd have to drop his wages by 2 thirds to get a game anywhere but Im sure he knows this.
Agreed both ^^^ these. There is no way anyone will pay £4m for David Stockdale. Just paper talk and speculation imo. There are far better GK available for much less and also on a FAT this summer.
£4 million has been mis-interpreted I reckon. I reckon they'd let him come to us for about £1million. Who gets sent out on loan and then a team wants 4 million for him? Think hed be a bargain at £1.5m mind.
Yeah I can't see us paying more than a million for him to be fair. Remember the tabloids quoting we were paying 7million for Fraizer Campbell in January?
Do you think we need to sign a keeper on a permanent? I would prefer us to own our own keeper and Vito would be great, but we have had some good players on loan recently and in the premiership we may be able to secure even better players on loan. I can't remember the last time we paid a lot of money for a player, that we hadn't previously had on loan, that was a big success.
In fairness, even ignoring the success criterion there, the only eligible player is Proschwitz. Before that the last big money signings were the PL crap and the last genuinely successful one was probably Folan* (does he count? He cost £1m and he had a good season but looked ****e from then on). If not then we're going even further back and looking at Stuart Elliott probably (who was only a couple of hundred grand, but it was big money for division 3 at the time.) *And in fact, we had previously had him on loan about 7 years before.
I don't think big Nic can be described as a success yet, though I hope he proves me wrong. I think Folan counts as big money, but a success, I'm not so sure. Just proves that you don't need to spend a fortune to get good players. Proschwitz aside Bruce has done excellent business in the transfer market so there is no way he will be paying silly money for Stockdale. If we could get Vito for anything close to £1m I think that would be good business, but think we may end up with another loan keeper.
Agreed. Also, Fulham are being linked with a few GK and guess what ? the fees mentioned differ between £3-5m.
4 million seems to high I would rather we get a Kasey Keller on a free or someone like him on a one year deal as opposed to spending that kind of money. If it looks like we have built a team that can stay up a 2nd year than 4 million doesn't seem unreasonable. I would rather us be more conservative with our purchases this time around, if we go up that is.
I dont think he could get a work permit anyway. I just meant that as an example, I would rather we get some old keeper with experience cheep than pay 4 million for a stockdale.
