Like many of us i got my last game of the season tickets yesterday. Woke up to find on twitter that they went on general sale so quickly made my way to st marys hoping that they wernt sold out got there there was no one what so ever queuing so i thought they were already sold out luckily i managed to get 3 and this was at half one. Shortly after this southampton tweeted out how tickets for the game have been sold out, many people replied angry, upset, disappointed that they didnt get one even though some say they spent hours on the phone and tried numerous times online but still didnt manage to get a ticket, many said that its wrong how they went on general sale straight away and that they should have been gone on sale to people who had already been to a set amount of games before going on general sale... many blamed 'plastic fans' as the cause of tickets selling out so quickly and how its unfair that people who've been there since the league 1 days have been put as if to say second best to premier league fans if that makes sense? whats your view on this?
Blaming "plastic Premier League" fans always comes across as spoiled with a false sense of entitlement.
I think its unfortunate but ultimately its about supply and demand. Being there since League One is irrelevant when you think about it. I've been there since 1965, should I get first shout because of that? Thats a rhetorical question obviously as I have a season ticket! We need a bigger ground. Somebody start a thread!
Calling fans "plastics" smacks of some form of snobbery, I have missed away games that I could have gone to, but that isn't any fault of SFC, it was just demand exceeded availability, same applies now, not all can go and there has to be some sort of control, although having said that, we may be Premier but the ticketing system seems to be Div. One at best!
in a way i can understand how some people might get frustrated with people that only go to the big games or the last game of the season only because saints ive done pretty well this season but then again going to football is not a cheap thing for some it might be but for others its not so not everyone can afford a season ticket not everyone can go to the majority of games therefore they pick the ones againts the big teams because they wanna get a decent match seeing as they dont go to football often... but at the end of the day its either get a season ticket or just make sure your down the stadium early enough to get a ticket? which i know for the majority is not possible due to work etc.. or the best solution of them all increase stadium capacity...
Everyone assumes that a lot of people who haven't been before got the Stoke tickets. I bet most of them had been to several other games during the season. The question about whether season ticket holders should be allowed first dibs is a valid one...their extra ticket could just as easily be for a mate who had attended no more games than those buying on general sale. There used to be a membership system and the ST holders could only buy another ticket after a couple of days when members had priority. That was a simple priority system as you paid £25 and got nothing but that priority. Can't see that the club will introduce a cumbersome priority system based on previous purchases when they can sell the tickets anyway...it's caused nothing but trouble with away tickets. I know I would be as mad as a box of frogs if I queued for a couple of hours at SMS and was told that I hadn't bought enough previously....sell out I would understand but not that.
One could argue that the last home game was likely to be a sell out especially after survival being a reasonable assumption or at worst it could be we need the last games points for safety. It would have been prudent to keep ones ear to the ground or do what a lot of others did wrote off for tickets before they were announced for sale to get first pickings.
So the Stoke game being the last game of the season and now being sold out. Guessing we can expect a pointless pitch invasion. I can understand when we were promoted but really do we need one for staying up? I would much rather the players be able to come out and thank the fans. Maybe just call me old fashioned at the tender age of 27.
Completely disagree on the pitch invasion, finishing mid-table in the EPL after back to back promotions is a pretty amazing achievement and well worth of some crazy celebrations!
I do so dislike whingeing threads like this one. Man up as they say. Don't whinge do something about it.
It has always been traditional to go on to the pitch, last game, I don't like it, but it is part of our make up to do so, at least it doesn't matter if the pitch gets damaged, as there is a big gap before we need it again. I always worry the PL would have a hissy fit and make us a scapegoat to make an example of us!
Must admit I am not fussed either way about a pitch invasion . But what sort of sanction do you think the PL would impose if they were going to do so ? I would hope just a polite written warning , or a fine , please PLEASE not a points penalty !!!
Points penalties are only for extremely serious cases...doubt a pitch invasion counts as one of those. Have to say don't see the point unless you a) get promoted or b) just avoid relegation.
This. I would rather see the players perform a lap of honour because they bloody well deserve a standing ovation. I was involved in the pitch invasion last season - it was great fun but that was because we got promoted. A pitch invasion for the sake of it doesn't sound fun to me.
I probably would rather this as well, but you know, if there's a pitch invasion I'm joining in. It's good fun.
I can't disagree with you more. I understand doing a pitch invasion if the result against Stoke confirmed us surviving but we should be long safe by then, in which case we would look like a bunch of small team mentality fans who think the best we can ever hope to achieve is survival in the Premier League - not the image I want for the Saints and not one Cortese is trying to put forward either.
Has it? I don't seem to remember a pitch invasion in 2010 when we didn't reach the playoffs but maybe my memory isn't as good as it used to be. In 2011 and 2012 the pitch invasions were to celebrate promotions, in 2009 it was to throw a strop at relegation and in 2008 it was a survival celebration. So not really a tradition, we've just had lots of goings on at Saints over the last few years!!
