Just been trawling through the "team of the week" Archives and for each of the five weeks, there has been a Saints player listed (order of most recent first) Clyne Rodriguez Rodriguez Rodriguez Boruc Pretty sure if you went back further you would find Lambert, Puncheon, Lallanal, Schneiderlin and probably Ramiez in there too. Given there are only 11 places and 20 teams, so on average a team is likely to be featured every two to three matches, I'd suggest we're starting to get the recognition our performances of late deserve... Even notice Lawro's picking us to win and has nice things to say
Morgan hasn't been in his team of the week, neither has Lallana, Ramirez and I'm not even sure Lambert has either. Which just shows what Crooks knows about football.
And Lawro hasn't changed his tune really...when he put us down for a rare win, we got a draw. I suspect however he will have us down for 2.1 win this week though.
Crooks articulates with agility, yet I never agree with anything much that he says. Like with all teams of the week or year attack minded players predominate.
Where's the poster that called Rodriguez "one goal"? Crooks is just a bit of a prat, but was a handy player who has a brain. His view is reasonable, and he clearly rates Jay. Anyone who can see his potential is all right with me.
Crooks' team of the week is often BS. If a defender scores he is in. If he makes a clearance off the line he is in. If you play solid all match long but no goal or goal-line clearance then you are ignored. Its laughable
Sorry, but anyone who can avoid the Good Lord Morgan along with His Holiness Pope Lambert doesn't have a clue. Vin
I dont find Garth Crooks team of the week anything other than vaguely interesting, sometimes i dont even look at it. In my opinion it is very difficult for anybody to pick a meaningful team of the week. Most people have favourite players and as one poster above has said, a player who has a very solid game but does nothing flash is invariable overlooked. Its just a bit of fun i suppose and not something i would consider getting into a hot debate about.
You honestly think he sits there and watches every game? Or just picks the person there's the most press noise about that week. I know which one I think he does.....
I give Crooks at least some credit for original thinking because after the last Engalnd failure in the South African world cup he said two things that I don't think any other pundit or journo said and that I totally agree with. One, he said we can't seriously say the England team fail in tournaments becuase the foreign players in the PL stifle home grown talent because there should still be enough Engalnd players in the PL to put together a good squad. Secondly, Crooks suggested maybe the ability of the forreign players in any given PL team may conceal the shortfalls in our England 'stars'. IMO if the Greeks and Danes with less depth, and arguably less individual talent, to draw on can produce a euro winning team then we should be able to as well.
Pretty sure he put Luke Shaw in for like 2-3 weeks in a row earlier in the season, citing his immense start, being so young. And to be fair, if a defender makes a goal line clearance then that is worth a place in team of the week, stopping a goal is pretty huge! It's the premier league, solidarity isn't enough, you've got to stand out from the crowd, as the standard generally is very high.
