Why is it bollocks, we revel in our own stupidity in this country. Don't make assumptions or sweeping statements because that is 'bollocks'
I'm not arguing with you pal, if you think we have a great reputation abroad then you keep thinking that.
Whittlingstick the English have been in America longer than the Irish, Scots and Welsh, all the Pilgrim fathers on the Mayflower were English and it is a source of pride for thousands of Americans to be a descendent of the original Mayflower.
Your'e a media puppet mate. No offence, but your'e beliefs are based almost entirely on what you read in the papers, and what you see on the tv. That's the way your coming across anyway, sorry !
I think the problem is people don't associate with the legend of St George. He literally has no link to England, never set foot in the country and is patron saint for literally dozens of other countries and cities. Why should we get excited about that? We should celebrate Englishness on our OWN day. It pains me to say it but the Aussies have got is right with Australia Day. The French have their own equivalent to celebrate a uniquely French achievement yet we share a saint with ****loads of other places. Let's have Trafalgar Day.
The poli e came to my local pub during the Euros and "advised" the landlord not to display England flags as this could upset our "guests". Someone at the bar said that would be fine if he went round to the local pizza place and told him to take down the Italian flags, just so we would know he wasn't being stupid or prejudiced against his own country. He left mumbling about the police keeping a careful eye on the place and shutting it if there was any reports of the slightest disturbance. Unbelievable. I have gone in there for 30 years and never seen a bit of trouble. Landlord had a lot of the outside of the pub painted red, white and blue during the Olympics. Good for him.
