Although we now have hope and determination coursing through the club it was reported a while ago that Mr. Short was fuming with the Transfer deals being done with regards Prices paid and Quality obtained. MoN stated the team just did not have the Skills needed, PDC has found a way to get them to show their skills and use them, but that does not answer the underlying question of whether the Scouting Staff at Sunderland are doing what they should be doing. When did we last see or hear of Pop Robson or any of his assistants using Mr. Shorts Jet or jumping on a bus/train to swan off and look at some young prospect or cast an eye over an excisting talent and follow up with reports and offers? When have we ever seen him highlighted in a match day crowd as so many other managers, coaches and former player now scouts seem to be? It has been rumoured there will be a major shake up at the Academy over the close season which ever division we find our selves in but will that guarentee an improvement in our scouting abilities and either a reduction in the over inflated prices quoted to SAFC for players or an increased level of skills for the prices we now pay. I believe PDC has some one in mind for the 'Director of Football' seat and that will almost complete his back room staff team, will that mean looking more into Europe rather than Africa/South America as happened during the tenures of our last two managers? We have an Owner who's heart is in the right place (not to mention his cheque book), a young hungry Manager eager to prove himself, a team/squad who are starting to believe in themselves again and are finding enjoyment at the plaudits and antics after the final whistle and a Fanatical bunch of supporters who will follow the club to hell and back so if we can just sort out the transfers and coaching maybe we will see some bright hungry young future stars either bought in or promoted through the academy in the not too distant future. PDC has stated he cannot believe we haven't won a cup for 40 years, I can because I have supported the Lad's long enough to know what they are like but I also believe now if we do get knocked out of a cup competition it will not be for the lack of effort like in the past as he will not settle for that. There is an old Latin curse which states 'May you Live in Interesting Times' I think we do and are and I hope it is not a curse but a precursor for GOOD times ahead. Haway The Lads!!!!! FTM KTF
Pop robson was talked about on the sky site today watching that lad from herenveen, it's not the scouts job to sign players, they only recommend.
