20110525. Gers eye Mensah move Sunderland face competition for Ghana defender By Pete O'Rourke - Follow me on Twitter @skysportspeteo. Last Updated: May 25, 2011 10:16am ....John Mensah's agent claims Rangers have expressed an interest in signing the Ghana international. The central defender is back at Lyon after spending the last two seasons on loan at Sunderland. Sunderland were thought to be weighing up a move to sign Mensah on a permanent basis, but Rangers could now rival them for the 28-year-old. Rangers have expressed an interest in Ghana defender John Mensah, according to the player's agent. Interest "It is true that Rangers have expressed interest in John," Mensah's agent, Fabien Piveteau, told GhanaWeb. "But we are looking at other offers and taking into consideration the price tag before making a move. "We have to sit with John's former club Lyon for a better deal for both parties, for now, we are just considering some factors before taking the next plan of action." Rangers are in the market for defensive reinforcements with Madjid Bougherra expected to quit Ibrox this summer. .
To be honest, in my opinion, they are welcome to him. He just has too many injury problems to be a viable assett for us.
With a heavy heart, i have to agree. I was borderline with the injuries, thought he offered more to the club, but the petulance against and after Fulham has tarnished my opinion. Everyone in the ground noticed the lack of a handshake.
Apparently he kicked off in the dressing room against Fulham or Wolves and won't be welcomed back as he got subbed for a youngster. And, to be honest, He hasn't been half the defender he was last season (for us that is) but for Ghana he seems to be able to play as much as he wants - Gers can have him for me - we need to look up not back and Mensah, as good a footballer as I think he is, wouldn't have got a game this season if not for injuries...
Im neutral on this one if the club feel he can do a good job at the right price great, i personally would have Samba every time
Time for us to move on form Mensah IMO too. Great player but always follwed by the "when he is fit" tag. He is too disruptive now to any kind of stability in the back 4 and we have seen that cost us dearly this season. Time to focus on other alternatives for me at the back.
I think Bruce will be of the Fergie mould and if Mensah has blotted his copybook then there will be no way back.
Samba? Awesome defender. Shakes the very ground he walks on and would be a monster in our defense. Doubt whether we cpuld persuade him to come, as I think there are several much better placed clubs such as Spurs, Liverpool and City looking at him now as well.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out John, forcing you out of the first half of your season for Rangers.
yes syd, man city are not budging on the ã8m fee and we are not willing to pay that and wil pay ã5m tops. good move by bruce to be honest, hutton a way better option for ã3m or ã4m. plus the luke young deal could be done early next week
ã8million is way overboard for Ned. I'd like him, i'd go to ã6million, but i'd still like Hutton.
Although you have now reached 196 posts of Utter ****, i would like too see Luke Young on a free and hope this is true as he is a good versitile full back
He'll go to whichever club will give him the time off to have that back operation. Is he worth a year out? - Well at the ã1m Lyon are asking, I think he is, providing he will give us a 2 or 3 year commitment in return when he comes back. But he's not going to be any good to anyone until someone makes that decision. His career is being wrecked by this thing and no one will bite the bullet and deal with it.
