Daniel Sturridge has revealed that anger was the emotion which inspired his remarkable impact as a substitute against his former club, Chelsea, on Sunday. The 23-year-old left Stamford Bridge to join Liverpool in January following a frustrating period out of the Blues' starting XI. Sturridge resembled a force of nature after being introduced for Philippe Coutinho, smashing a powerful long drive against a post before finding the net within seven minutes of entering the action. "I was disappointed not to start because the manager would have known I was a bit angry with Chelsea and wanted to prove a point against them," the striker said. "It was strange playing against them because I only left three months ago so I kind of knew their weaknesses and what their team was all about. "I was itching to get on and the team performed well in the second half. We started attacking a lot more; in the first half we were a little bit defensive. "The game opened up and we showed what we're all about - it was good." The strike against Chelsea was Sturridge's sixth in 12 appearances for Liverpool and the England international is determined to maintain his scoring focus. He added: "I'm happy but it's my job. I'll be happy today but tomorrow is a new day. "I just look forward to the next one now, it's onwards and upwards from here and I hope to continue to help the team get some results." http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/sturridge-i-had-a-point-to-prove
It was quite evident that he was going to be up for it and I'm surprised he didn't start. He just needs to find that consistency, and he has a great chance of leading the line now with Suarez being out for the rest of the season.
Well, if anger makes him play like that we better start thinking about how we can piss him off some more.
meh! i don't really believe him cos his muted celebration actually suggested he was upset to score against his old side.
I'd say it was 'showing respect' to the fans of a former team. Despite it all, they believed in him far more than their board did. If the manager/board had not decided to play a clearly out-of-form Torres ahead of him, he'd still be there. And I don't think the fans, whatever you think of some of them (Placcies), ever did anything to upset him. Guess it shows he's not completely out-of-touch with the common football fan. Of course, just my opinion...
Definitely don't send him to anger management with Suarez. Especially if Gene Hackman is the consultant
I don't think he would. Rodgers is the first manager to put trust in him and I think he realises that.
guy i respect those opinions. I jsut think if you re "angry" you'd show it a bit. I don't mean like say adebayor at arsenal for city or say lie rvp might celebrate at the emirates next weeked but something.
