Last season Liverpool finished in the top 8, two cup final appearances, won one of the cup finals and got a spot in Europe under Kenny Daglish. This season, Liverpool will finish in the top 8, no cup finals, and no place in Europe next season. Michael Laudrup in his first season has taken us to a cup final and helped us win our 1st ever major trophy, given us European football for next year, and looking to finish in the top 10, something not even the craziest Swans fan would have ever predicted at the start of the season.

If you compare KD and BR seasons, then BR has taken Liverpool backwards, and if it wasn't for Suarez, Liverpool would be mid table, whereas if we had a Suarez in our team, then we would probably be fighting for the 6-7th spot ourselves <ok>

I think Suarez would do even better in our system than he has done at Liverpool. Without Suarez ... Liverpool would be a toothless team ;)

I am not overly concerned with our recent results. Winless in five some are shouting from the rooftops!! Unbeaten in 2 is what I hear. 2pts from 15 is shocking!!! 2pts from 6 sounds better.
In all seriousness, this time last year under BR we LOST 5 on the bounce, conceded 13 goals and scored 1!! compare that with 3 losses and 2 draws!! conceded 8 and scored 4 we have definitely improved.
I will say there seems to be a pattern emerging in the Premiership for us in that between Feb and April (league games only) we seem to fade away a little. Call it a blip every team has one ours seems to be this time of the season. I would rather us have our blip when we are secure, rather than halfway through the season when we are still chasing points.

Just a quick stat comparison: Played Goals for Against Points
    Feb 11th to April 21st 2012 11 13 18 9
    Feb 9th to April 20th 2013 8 8 13 8

Maybe its just me but I am a half glass full kind of guy. We have improved on last year especially when you add to that silverware, survival and European football guaranteed. I know the doom and gloom merchants are in a minority on here ( lets be honest it is virtually a lone voice) but I still felt the need to put things in perspective a little. Even though 50 points is probably not acheivable now, in the grander scheme of things the points tally is not all that important, even if league position is. I still think a top 10 finish can still be done!!

If the lads really focus I believe we can possibly get 2 wins and a draw from Fulham, Wigan and Manchester City. With a bit of luck we might even squeeze a draw from one of the other games, particularly at United who will have nothing to play for. Fergie might even opt to throw in a few second stringers. It's still on for us.

I was thinking about that myself and if you think that citeh might be in the same boat with nothing to play for we may get more than we think after all we did do them 1-0 last season. I just thought that if I posted that it may appear that I was being over optimistic lol.

    Hahahaha.

There was me thinking maybe I'd managed to inspire three pages of football debate.

For anyone interested, I've got a forum on my site too. I intend to be a heavy-handed mod, who is ultimately fair. Anyone who fell foul of me when I was mod here is probably better off staying away, but for the majority of folk (able to have a decent civilised conversation) you're all more than welcome.

We are only as good as our last game and if you are happy with the way we are playing then thats your choice. Me i am a realist and can see flaws all over the team because of change of playing style that have made us a worst team than we were.....Remember the confidence on here in the first half of the season that we were not afraid of beating anyone even the big teams....remember that?
Who can say that now? We dont look remotely like the side we were and have gone backwards so much so that teams look at as as easy targets, and rightly so.....Ok we won the league cup beating a div2 side but even before that we were dodgy and since then have got worse.....We are very lucky we have enough points in the bag and a few teams have had a nightmare season or we would be well in trouble.....I thought laudrup might make us a better team but results and display are not showing that and laudrup has to shoulder the blame for that....we are finishing the season a very poor team and its disappointing to witness our demise that is not looking good for the future....laudrup i want to succeed but he needs to get back and play to our strengths and stop tweaking things all the time.....There was talk not long ago as manager of the season but you cant give him that now not after his 2nd half of the seasons performance and to me thats a shame...all his good work is being ruined by himself and his poor tactical ability...

    Dai,
I never said we'd finish above them but am positive we have out performed them.

Liverpool have a £100 million + per annum budget, a 45,000 seater stadium (maybe more), an academy choc full of talent from all over the world, the best of everything and a worldwide fan base....they need to get Champions League football. Dalglish won one cup got to the final of the other got Europa League football and still got sacked because anything below 6th in the league is failure for them. The big boys are in their own little mini league of 6 and dropping out of there is inexcusable for LFC.
Rodgers inherited a pretty settled squad and was given about £50 million to replace the likes of Kuyt and Bellamy....he's going to finish 7th without even Europa football next year...he has failed mate.

Laudrup on the other hand inherited a team with 4 of last season's starting XI missing and lost another (Taylor) in the first game...forcing him to go with a 19 year old on £400 a week who's previous experience was against the likes of Carmarthen Town.....he's got one of the smallest budgets in the league, we didn't even own our own training ground until recently...and what has he done?
Kept us in the top 10 all year, achieved 40 points much earlier than Brendan did, won us our first ever cup and got us into Europe next year.

He has excelled, Brendan has failed. You have lost the argument.
