Visit England have come up with 101 things to do in England for St Georges Day on the 23rd April. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...aw-bucket-list-101-things-Britain-abroad.html The article only gives out 50 and these are the headings. FOOD AND DRINK HISTORY AND HERITAGE ARTS AND CULTURE WILDLIFE AND NATURE HEALTH AND FITNESS What can we come up with? When i saw skating on the Fens, first thing i thought of was skating across Barmy Drain as a kid!!
Not about Hull specifically, but what a F*** awful, southern biased list that is. Food and Drink? What is one of the most iconic things in Britain? Pubs. #1 on food and drink should be a session at a pub. There are still some decent ones despite successive governments trying to destroy them.
Me too! But Hull sure missed a trick when they let the ferries go....
I know mussy will hate me saying it but the Humber Bridge. i cross it twice a day going to work and it is amazing looking out over the Humber first thing in a morning and at sunset too.
The Humber Bridge is indeed an awesome sight. A vision of beauty. Jeremy Clarkson (like him or loathe him) brought the new shaped Rolls Royce up north, just to drive it over the bridge. He loves it as much as us.
Clarkson has done a few Top Gear things at the bridge. I'm sure he described it as one of the unsung wonders of the world - Which it is
That ferry film brings back memories of away games at Grimsby back in the 1960s - ferry to New Holland and train to Cleethorpes where hundreds (or even thousands!) of fans would pour through and around the ticket barrier without showing their tickets and the frustrated ticket collector would shout "I know your faces - I'll get you when you come back!". Back on topic - definitely wouldn't miss a visit to the Ferens Art Gallery.
I always remember the very rare, early mornings when i would cycle across the bridge, with the white a fluffy clouds sitting motionless underneath the decks. As always i never had anything to record the moment for posterity.....
remember bike rides to cleethorpes via the ferry when me & my mates utilising a coin tied to a piece of cotton we would empty the grandstand horse racing slot machines, if you got twigged you simply snapped the cotton & legged it or denied everything. musta made massive profits of oh at least £2 - old money mind...

Many years ago, I might of known someone who had a key that, by some strange coincident, fitted the pinball machines in the Student Union Bar at Hull Uni, which might of paid for some evenings out.
Shop at St Stephens?!? Yeah it's great to go somwhere that has the same stores every single other large town in the country has. If that's in the top 20 then we're struggling....
Im not being negative here and in danger of taking us off topic, but how many people go and watch ice hockey in Hull? Is it a big sport? Ive genuinley never met anyone who has ever been to see it in their lives. What kind of crowds do they get?
Unfortunately, they're now called the Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays and I've no idea what their attendances are, but the Arena has 3,750 seats, so it's less than that.
