Well, he has certainly learned how to use Obika. Keep him well away from the action until the last 10 minutes.
From what I've seen of him, Obika could be right up there in the Leon Clarke school of donkeys but has just managed to be in the right place at the right time two games in a row. Mind you i suppose that is the strikers art. Not sure I'd want him as our permanent striker next season.
Genuinely shocked at Wolves today - if the referee had seen anything today (a trip to Specsavers may be imminent) there's no way they'd have finished with 11 men. AllHell has already mentioned the foul on Hamer, even worse IMO was the off-the-ball foul on Fuller right in front of CP and the fourth official, who Chrissie rightly did his nut at. The tap that JJ took running into the box that forced him off also went unnoticed. Dervite and Morrison rock solid today and Solly was just everywhere. Green was impressive. Gower was dreadful. Pritchard was having an absolute 'mare but got his head down and refused to hide and put some fine tackles in. That's my last game of the season - I wish it had been more memorable, but it's three valuable points.
Thanks Tewks. Always good to hear from those who were there even if they come up with totally contradictory assessments. If Dervite has now "settled" he could be a better long-term partner for Morro than Cort or Taylor, much as I rate those two, because he is left-footed. Perhaps Pritchard would do better with his head "up" so he can see where he is passing the ball?
I don't undervalue taps-ins and poached goals (they count the same as "worldies"), but a player needs to (more or less) keep it up over a season to be worth his place. What we have seen of him is too small a sample to judge. Still, CP (or whoever) has a good record at talent-spotting so maybe he has found another diamond in the rough. But is he that keen to play for Charlton?
Spurs (like Arsenal) have had their fair share of poor signings, but they don't usually sign "donkeys". Their flops are more likely to have been "misunderstood geniuses" like Frimpong. Someone must have seen something in Obika at one stage. Can't say I have, but early days yet,.
That's unfair! N'Guessan is worth every penny of the 25,000 pounds we allegedly refused to pay for him.
As far as Obika goes, I'd say our margins are too tight for us to invest time and money in a posible genius. If he's on the edge of the Spurs squad, logic suggests he would be able to slip into our squad withoiut problems, but football is often not like that. As it stands, he's a loanee, and I can't see him being offered as a free gift, so it's just a matter of being thankfull for a couple of match winning goals. If CP can see a future for him at the Valley, and we can finance a deal, then fair enough, but for the momento, seems a bit unlikely. PS Am I to take it from other posts that the play offs have gone out of reach?
I know I am in dream world (too much sun I fear) but we only need 7 matches to go our way over the next two weekends !! Perhaps I'll go & have a lie down now in the shade.
I think if we werent 5-points behind Bolton then we'd still stand a chance of the PlayOffs still... as Leicester and Forest can draw their last two matches and we'll still finish above them should we win our last two. But Bolton having to lose their final two matches... think its just a bit too far
The play-offs were never in reach for me, I'm just happy we're mathematically safe! Personally finishing in the top half of the table with squad in our first season back is a great achievement <OK>
A bit surprised by the negativity on here. On another post, Blackheath addick did a score summariser showing how we need the results to go to make the play offs, and a mere 6-0 against Boro on saturday would be fine. We then have a slightly tougher call against Bristol, where he reckons we'll need ten goals, but come on, stranger things have probably happened.
