Thanks to DT for providing the title of this thread - his mates from Reading & Brentford summed up our plight to perfection - We really have thought that TF's open chequebook would answer all our prayers and, as if perversely, everything we touch turns to stone and we have gone the exact opposite of where we had hoped. Worse still, we have destroyed the spirit of the club that earned us promotion to the point where there is none. All through the summer, despite a number of less than stellar signings we were crowing about a 'top ten' finish but we were deluding ourselves. The fact we could spend over £20 million in January shows how we are almost playing fantasy football and that money has left us further from safety than when Harry took over. Expectation HAS BEEN beyond reality and continues with some already saying we'll bounce straight back next season, simply because we will spend. Is it just me or do any of you curse the day Bernie & Flav raised our expectations to beyond reality?...
No, and I 'll keep on saying it, NO! Not at all beyond expectations - the 4 year plan was what it was - a tremendous effort, and it just happened to pay off. Whether that was a dream that came true - well, whatever our club's faults were at the time, whatever plight we were in, those ragtag bunch of billionaires somehow got the formula right and got us back up to the Prem. We owe them that much. What expectations did you have? We can only win matches one at a time, and see how the results go. Did you imagine we would have such a stellar season when we won the Championship? We never left the top. It was an amazing season but I never thought we would pull off what we did at the beginning of the season - and a thrilling season it was. Get real. That's what these 2 past seasons means. And it hurt, but we will get real. For the better.
Whatever we say about Tango and (not) Cash, they at least did not throw millions around thus raising our expectations. Sad old day. I do hope we will be back and hopefully befor another 15 years.
