Take a simple honest observation and turn it into what you like. Sure MON sees it for what it is.

Our exits from the two cups next season should make for good reading.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from many years of management, that is NEVER slag off the old or recently departed, just build on what was good & learn from their mistakes doing your best not to repeat them.

He is dead right though, with our support and passion and with the money that has been made available over the yars we should have done better. We should be able to succeed at least as well as say everton............oh, we are now!!!!

Question is Kiwi, do we want to do well in the cups? Look at the Skunks? They got into Europe (extra games just like a cup), and they went sunk down the ladder quite quick. Wigan this year, reaching the final of the FA cup and are a sure bet to be relegated. And im pretty sure it was Birmingham a year or 2 ago that did the same (but didn't win).

I for one would be happy to crash out of the cups, and ensure we aren't fighting for survival each year. And once we have a good team with depth, then mount a challenge. Most clubs have 2 teams they can field, and normally the weaker of the two for cups. Arsenal have been doing it for years, same with Utd. We dont have that depth :(

    Exactly so.

imo Ellis Short has said very little different to what other owners have said when put in the unenviable position of having to sack a manager.

Sad it didn`t work out but, needs must.

Thing is, a cup game is a lottery, if the best teams always won, there would be no romance in the cup.

and boro at the time were flying in the championship, think they were 3rd since then they have dropped away drastically but at the time they were on good form (and we were not) so it wasnt really a shock tbh.

Its just one of those comments that could come back and bite him on the arse, any time in the next 20 years if his teams get knocked out by lower opposition they will swing this stick at him.

We have won **** all for 40 years. The nags have won **** all for over 40 years.

That 2 clubs with such a rich, vibrant history and the most loyal passionate fanbase in the country (how many other clubs with **** all to shout about for 40 years could attract 47,000 to their stadium?) and all PDC and Short are asking as well is why?

Our cup exits this season were a disgrace, regardless of who was manager, given we were at home to lower league opposition.

PDC carries no more guarantees of silverware than any other manager of course but its absolutely fine to make these comments.

We shouldn't have had to wait for 40 years for a trophy with a club of our stature and history. Neither should the nags.

Could PDC win something? Who knows but I get the feeling its going to be lots of fun trying.

I dont understand the disgrace tag for our cup exits.

Our last cup win we were in league 2 (Championship now) and beat Man City Arsenal and Leeds to win the cup, that is the romance of the cups for me. should we go out to lower league of course not but it would be boring if every team higher than their opponents got through all the time. Just look at Bradford this year.

in the cups **** happens and it does bloody hurt when you get beat, but the romance of them is great imho.

Steve, the difference is that 73 Sunderland team were 2nd division as you say but looking back now, it was also full of top quality players, some of whom went on to play for England and have fantastic careers.

Those Bolton and Boro teams were and still are utter ****e and full of kids and 2nd rate players.

To have lost at home is also double the disgrace.

Short used Saturday’s matchday programme to reveal his reason for sacking O’Neill. He wrote: ‘We changed managers because our results and performances hadn’t been good for over a year.

Poor old MON got the sack and everyone in the media is up in arms for only one reason - he's a nice guy - stuff the fact we weren't winning. That doesn't matter apparently.

As far as I can see ES can sack any manager he wants, what the hell it has to do with anyone else is beyond me. As long as my team is going in the right direction I'm happy.

    "Daily Fail - SOD OFF"

These words can be used with impunity, as they are never wrong (unlike the Fail) :)
