So far this season we're played WHU twice and put seven past them. Four of those were in the LC at their place, when two second strings met, but I'm still counting it!

There is so little to say about this game that hasn't already been said, and it all will revolve around Allardyce blah blah blah physical encounter blah blah blah in-form Carroll blah blah blah.

So we know what to expect, and I think we'll mainly be looking to avoid picking up too many injuries. I wonder if they know what to expect though. At City on Wednesday we had the best of the game all night, and could have been two up before Tevez scored. As I've written elsewhere, my mate and I were saying within ten minutes - why didn't Bobby send them out like this against QPR, we would have torn them apart. But at Loftus Road they were instructed to avoid defeat, whereas at City they were obviously told to enjoy themselves because they had nothing to lose.

If we can cope with their physical game then we'll come away with a win. Simple as. We always - at least under Bobby - outplay Allardyce's teams. It'll be the physical battles - and the tiredness from Wednesday - which might count against us. Nolan and Carroll - and he's a player that I do rate in terms of skill as well as presence - versus Alcaraz and Scharner will be the key battle. But will be interesting to see how prepared their central defenders are for Kone. And will McMananman - bound to start - find space in behind their left back.

Well i think you said it all HP your right about Allardyce can that man BS or what but ye this is a win game that will see us come back with the spoils. But one thing that i never liked about WestHam was that they winged there heads of when we moved up into the prem before they did.

Just seen the team From, Bobby has brought in Caldwell for Beausejour and Robles for al Habsi - as well as swapping Mcmanaman for di Santo.

The message is clear - we'll be up for a physical encounter! Three centre backs - Caldwell, Scharner and Alcaraz to contain Carroll and Vaz Te plus pick up that no mark Nolan. Figueroa and Boyce as wing backs or part of a solid back five. I think the only thing he could have done different to suggest he was going to take the physical part of the game to them is play McArthur but Gomez won't be switched - he actually played pretty well against Citeh so he wouldn't deserve to be dropped - even tactically. (come on Jordi! Prove me wrong in spades!)

    What did I say?

Alcaraz injured, hope that it's not too serious.

Nope, can't deny you're right about that Lee!

We seemed to play reasonably well but couldn't break you down, whereas you had a couple of hoofs up the park and two clinical finishes. No hard feelings. You played the Allardyce way and it served you well. I have to say that defensively you did look very professional.

Good luck for the rest of the season. Fingers crossed we'll be pissing you off again next year.

I can't stay mad at the team that let Diame leave on a free .
Good luck in your great escape attempt, will be nice to watch it from the top half of the table.

Tell you what it looks like they're going to let Figueroa leave on a free too - if you're smart he really has it in him to be one of the best attacking left backs in the country.

I wanted to ask - have the WHU support really taken to momo? Seems like they have, the crazy legged loon is really quite endearing.

I remember it being reported that we were looking at Figueroa, am I right in thinking that like Diame, he'll be leaving due to wage demands?
With regards to Diame, he'll be off in the summer most likely, never signed the new contract to double the release clause.

You'll notice less and less Wigan players going for a big fee. The players we sold on for big profits were bought in the Bruce era mainly - Valencia, N'Zogbia, Palacios. Now we seem to have a policy of buying cheap or developing, (we bought two more from the Barca academy last summer, neither of which have made a first team squad yet) an internal wage cap and we don't re-sign anyone looking for a wage over - I dunno, it'll be in the region of £20k a week. So Whelan isn't taking the risk of having a lot of high wage players on the books which he then can't sell, preferring to take the smaller, known hit of their wages over three or four years and then let them go on a free.

He prefers known liabilities rather than risky, unknown rewards if we sell them. But I'm pretty sure he'll tout them round during their last year.

Risky strategy that, all it takes is one bad year of recruitment and you're short of first team players, not to mention if letting players leave on a free becomes mainstream, players might start waiting until their contract runs out so that they can get a better salary elsewhere, quite a few of your players would have plenty of suitors offering higher wages.

Its true Whelan doas sign largely unknown players but only because he knows Martinez can work with them to become better than average players but letting them go on a free is not the way to go

I completely agree From, but I think that DW just isn't taking the same risks with the club any more. We made a £5m profit last year which was used to "reduce the debt" - in other words, paid to Dave. He's not keeping anyone on higher wages with just the hope that they'll be sold on to a bigger club.

Expect a mass exodus this Summer. :(

Plenty games left yet bud, might not be an issue. Baggies away for a party, Swansea for a Bobby love-in (not) and Villa for some nail biting. Lots of fun left to be had!

You get your tickets for the final today? I did it on the net, took forever.
