What's up with these people? UNION bosses have cancelled a training event planned for the Stadium of Light amid fears members would not attend in protest at Paolo Di Canioâs appointment as Sunderland manager. However, the TUC has denied it is boycotting the Black Cats. Di Canioâs appointment after the sacking of Martin OâNeill sparked a media storm when SAFC director David Miliband resigned from the clubâs board. Di Canio later issued a statement distancing himself from reports that he had admitted to being a fascist in a newspaper interview. He said: âI am not the man that some people like to portray. I am not political, I do not affiliate myself to any organisation, I am not a racist and I do not support the ideology of fascism.â But the TUC confirmed it had still decided to move a training day scheduled to be held at the stadium. âTrade union members have recently confirmed to us that they will not attend a forthcoming training event scheduled to take place at the Stadium of Light,â said North East regional secretary Kevin Rowan. âWhile there is no boycott in place, we were approached by a number of trade union members indicating that they were unlikely to attend the event while it was at this particular venue as a direct result of the appointment of Paolo Di Canio as head coach. âWhile the club have made that appointment for footballing reasons, they will fully understand the impact it has had in damaging the reputation of a club like Sunderland which has such a strong reputation as a community club. âTrade union reps do a fantastic job in supporting workers to develop their learning and skills opportunities. He added: âWe advised the organiser of the views expressed and requested they change the venue.â
So are these idiots going to vet the staff of any alternative venue for their political beliefs? It's ****ing "look at me taking the moral high ground' syndrome.
It would be interesting to have a survey to see how many of the people saying they will not attend just happen to be Mags as well!
Yeah agree totally - I am a union branch organiser for Unison (Health) and someone mentioned Di Canio at a recent training event we had and when we arranged a meeting and agreed upon a meeting place the member (A Newcastle Fan) brought up Di Canio's beliefs and said "St James' Park has a good conference and banqueting facility" - my retor was "And what's Alan Pardew's political beliefs?" to which he replied "Why is that important" and the entire room laughed at him as he'd made it important for SAFC but said it wasn't for NUFC! Nob - Anyhow our conference is at the SOL!!
Bloody hell Reg, even as I was reading it I was saying to myself, I would put my house on them being skunks.
Would these leftist union leaders bar anybody from membership if they were diehard tory? That's why I chose Solidarity, they will represent anybody regardless of your politics or job. Only £5 a month too.
Just political correctness gone mad, as per. If he was a communist they wouldn't have batted an eyelid...
Binned the union after they refused point blank to help us when the firm finished 2/3rds of the workforce when the crunch kicked in. Got no time at all for them toothless today and more concerned with credit cards and insurance than looking after the workers.
My union at work is pathetic. Dont even know why im in it especially as i'm staunch consertative! Thatcher didn't have a problem with unions per se tho-it was the millitant unions and the Dave Hoppers of the world she had a problem with...
I have - Have to say without Unison I'd be lucky to have a job now as I was hung out to dry by my former manager and the legal side of what work did to me (promotion offered in writing then contractors taken on to complete the role I was offered whilst I was on patenity leave) Then my manager at the time tried to get rid of me because I found out that he had stopped the promotion due to "not being able to fill the post I was partaking at the time". I had so little knowledge of anything and this Manager kept threatening me with my job as I was lying about him. SO I went to the union and got the job!! Also - The COnservative Government do not like unions and do not agree with what they stand for - but the Union I am a part of do not discrimante or care who you work for! As for that bloke trying to use Di Canio's beliefs - he is no longer a union rep as he has had a lot of problems with people about this and is letting football run his working life!! Has argued with me a number of times by trying to use football (in various votes and tstuff) but is no longer taking part in those meetings at the request of the branch!!
Had a decent lad when I was at UPUK tried all ways to get more lads to join so they could have a say at the place but, they were all against it most were ex pitmen and shipyard workers so even they had had enough of them.
I've never had any time at all for Unions and have never been a member of any of their organisations. They all spout the same ****e IMO. I watched a tv drama called Dockers years ago about the Liverpool dockers who were sold down the river by the TGWU. If any of you are on the fence about unions, try and find a copy of Dockers to watch. It will open your eyes!
the only experience I have with unions is the NUS. They get right on my tits do they. They do **** all apart from moan.
