If we get relegated he's not going to be playing for us, simple as that.

Everyone just needs to realise this and not get upset when it happens if we go down.

We will just sell him at a bit of a loss.

Slow news day stirred up by the media, every other day there is an RVW article, at this rate Archant appear to be going at I'm surprised we don't know what he had for lunch last Friday right the way through to first film he ever watched. I'd rather be focusing on the present issues faced by the club at the moment then the distant future.

    Sounds like this is right.

It is in nobody's interest other than RvW's agent for him to have a full release clause if we go down. There is no way Sporting will want to hand back the money and there's no way we would be happy with him going elsewhere without getting the money back. However, it is quite clear that if we were to go down, it is highly likely that RvW would be able to go elsewhere either by forcing us to loan him out or there being a clause that allows another club to buy him from us immediately after he joins us.

The agent knows that if he can highlight this, other clubs will be attracted to the situation and he can negotiate a big fee for himself.

Given that we are not going down, doesn't really matter, though, eh? <laugh>

A player can not move twice in the same window, so if we do go down he will be contracted to us till january.

I believe the rule is actually that they can't play for more than 2 clubs in a season, so players aren't generally sold in August and then January. The closest example I can find is Hamann in 2006, who signed a pre-contract with Bolton (after being released by Liverpool) before having a change of heart and moving to Man City, after about a day as a Bolton player.

    Edit: Found it:

So to me, that suggests we'd be free to sell him in the summer. Whether he's classed as 'belonging' to Sporting for the beginning of next season or not would be interesting, but if not he's presumably free to be sold on again by whoever was to take him off us.

I hope this doesn't put a bit or a wedge between Wolfswinkel and the club though. That's my worry, although I don't get why it's a big deal if he didn't join us should we go down. Why would he want to?

Exactly, there's no reason why one of the top strikers in Portugal should ever be at a championship side. I'm hoping the agent's comments are taken as extra motivation for us to survive, rather than him trying to tell Norwich his player is too good for us.

Agree, although I still think that with anything an agent says, it will always be with a view for profiting themselves. Why else would they need to go public?
