Let's just hope, after Sunday, that our football players aren't called up to fight... there's precious little of that in them!

I actually think some of them would benefit from a Korea change.

Nort Korea would collapse under its own inefficiency without the continued financial support of China. China can change Korea's foregin policy, and its government, by simply stopping food exports for a coupke of weeks. If NK is threatening the world with war, it is because China is content that it do so.

The danger is that what happened before happens again: China and the US go to war using North and South Korea as proxies. China isn't crazy enough to do that again, but they hope that the US will worry that North Korea is crazy enough to do anything

To be fair, they won the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Bosnia convincingly enough. The trouble is, winning wars in off the beaten track countries in the 21st century isn't like beating Italy, Germany and Japan 70 years ago. The beaten countries don't simply acknowledge defeat and ask for an aid package, becoming in time your chief trading partners. They ask for aid and spend the next 20 years blowing you up from around corners, while you desparately look for a way to cut and run.

These days, winning a war is just the beginning of the hard work

They can't call it in - - it is all government bonds with fixed terms.

What they could do is sell it, which would cause a slump in the value of the US dollar and an increase in interest rates paid on new debt, both of which would lead to inflation. A bad scenario for the US but nothing at all worse than the last few years.

The US would introcue trade sanctions, leadign to a significant declien in China's exports, causing signficant unemployment and an economic slowdown but nothing it can't handle.

I think that is why China would do everything they could to prevent a war otherwise the yanks would tell them to go and swing for their money.

IMO, Kim wrong-un is trying to flex his muscles to get more aid or sanctions lifted in return he would have to accept not to make/test missiles. He can then be the hero and rebuild his 3rd world country with trade embargos lifted. Just my thoughts.

In reality, they'd be told more than likely to go and politely **** themselves.

A more logical solution would be that Brazil pays it, and in turn inherits some very lucrative contracts from the United States that China were previously dealing with. China would end up with sad faces.
