I warned a while back that there was a concerted campaign in full swing to discredit Rangers CEO Charles Green.

Evidence of that can be clearly seen in the media virtually every day as the press pack seek to bring the controversial Yorkshireman down â all in the service of another club CEO.

Having said that, Big Chuck has done himself no favours with some of his recent pronouncements and I have not been slow to say so in this blog.
Right on cue, the SFA have now issued Green with a notice of complaint in regards to his so-called racist remarks . Green has responded by pointing out he was trying, in his own clumsy way, to prove he was not a racist.

I for one believe him.

People forget that Charles Green does a lot of business with the Asian community. There is simply no way that he could do this if he was known to have racist views or opinions.

Another thing that Green is being pilloried for is his claim that Manchester United back his proposals for Rangers to play in England.
But I have often pointed out that Charles Green has a massive network of friends in English football and beyond.

If he says Man U want Rangers in the English leagues, again, I believe him. I also know for a fact that other big name clubs have given Big Chuck a thumbs-up to the idea.

In fact, Gordon Strachanâs claims today that both Rangers and Celtic will be out of Scottish football within ten years is an indirect confirmation of Greenâs claims.
Charles Green networks constantly with clubs on the continent in order to facilitate the next phase of football â a European league with Rangers in it.
I appreciate recently that Green has made a few errors â the sticky business over Craig Whyteâs involvement was always going to be something the new Rangers regime would rather not have come up.

But it has and Green has embarrassingly â though understandably â admitted his culpability in playing Craig Whyte JR Ewing-style to get his hands on the shares and assets.

It doesnât make pleasant reading but it is part of the cut-throat world of business and letâs not forget â Rangers is a business.

Rangers fans are beginning to question Green and this is not a bad thing. He has always welcomed close inspection to be fair.

And my own line is that Rangers fans should not trust the CEO â not when they can monitor him. Maybe one day that will change and Big Chuck will prove himself worthy of more trust.
So I am not saying to trust the man currently at the helm of Rangers Football Club. I am, however, advocating, that at this moment in time Rangers supporters should back Charles Green to the hilt. To be brutally frank, what other option is there? There are already too many splits and factions inside Ibrox. Turning on the one man who has the power to cash out by selling Rangers to the biggest rogue with money he can find is not wisdom.

And itâs time Rangers fan stopped talking the loyal talk and started walking the loyal walk. Sadly, the bluenose support is one of the most fickle around.
Backing Charles Green unreservedly would be a great way of showing Rangersâ detractors that the Rangers family is united for once.

To put things into perspective, so far all Green has done is make a few poorly-thought-out comments about his relationship with Imran Ahmad. His confessions to dealings with Craig Whyte do not constitute a hanging offence in my opinion.

Tricking the trickster could arguably be a commendable act.

As for Greenâs hype and bluster, he is a salesman and itâs his job to sell Rangers.

The greatest threat to Rangers right now is if the fans do what the clubâs enemies want and turn on Charles Green.

I wonât be doing that.

I am backing the man who saved Rangers from oblivion.

While keeping a canny eye on him, of courseâ¦

GREEN LOOKS SET TO SURVIVE RACE ROW

THE next few days will be vital for the future of Rangers and for Charles Green, with confused Ibrox supporters already creating a groundswell of opinion which is turning against him.

There is no doubt that Green’s continual outbursts have now placed Rangers at the centre of an embarrassing race row which has been cranked up by the fact sponsors, Tennent’s Lager are unhappy by Green’s racist remarks.

Just as there is no doubt, reports that Walter Smith is on the brink of quitting (or "on the verge of taking a stand" as was said in In The Loop) as a director in disgust at the events of the last few days, are equally accurate.

But make no mistake about it, I understand from a source on the board that Charles Green is on the brink too. Green has blundered Rangers into one crisis too many with his racist remark, using the “P” word and then making things worse by trying to justify it, before finally issuing a belated and somewhat qualified apology.

That Green outburst infuriated Walter Smith. Smith believes in the Rangers tradition and in the Rangers way and such inflammatory language is most certainly not the way he believes things should be done inside the Blue Room. (the same Smith who admitted singing sectarian songs?)

Indeed, Charles Green did not so much reveal, as boasted, that he often called Imran Ahmad a ‘Paki,’ in what many have described to me as a Ron Atkinson moment. (no, Atkinson let slip a racist word by accident. Green happily admitted to using one. Quite, quite different I think you'll find Leggo)

Now non executive director Smith, who staked his impeccable reputation for honestly (honesty?), probity (which means much the same thing as honesty) and integrity by joining the board after countless pleas from Green, which also saw Smith being assured all was as it should be, is near the end of his tether. And not just over the racist stuff either. The nine-in-a-row legend is also in a fury at discovering Imran Ahmad’s links with Craig Whyte. That has particularly enraged Smith and he will demand answers from Ahmad. (he's a very enraged man is old Walter.)

Green’s two business partners, Imran Ahmad, who is not on the board, and financial director, Brian Stockbridge, who is, may well now be forced to fear their friend Green has become a liability as far as their investment in Rangers and the club’s image with sponsors is concerned, unless he tones down his act. (and I'm sure the singing at Berwick and elsewhere doesn't help, eh Leggo?)

They must surely also fear that the concerns sponsors, Tennent’s Lager have now raised about having their name on the jerseys while Rangers are at the centre of a race row because of Charles Green, could impact on other sponsorship and commercial deals and rob Rangers of much needed income.

But I do not believe they will ditch Green at what promises to be a stormy board meeting. Though they may try to rein him in.

Certainly, during Green’s television performances on Tuesday evening on STV, the increasingly beleaguered Rangers chief executive gave the appearance of a man wilting under the strain, leading many to fear for what may come next. Rangers supporters – many of them with impeccable boardroom sources and who spend tens of thousands on the club every year – have told me they are extremely worried as to what Green’s next damaging outburst will be. And just what any further damage he may do to the financial future of Rangers, as well as the Rangers reputation?

There is already evidence that Green is hitting the Ibrox investors where it hurts them the most and costing them cash. The Rangers share price has been on the slide in recent days and as the news about the Scottish Football Association putting Green in the dock for his racist remark filters down to the London Stock Exchange there could be more financial ramifications for Rangers. (has anyone seen the Â£23m from the share issue by the way?)

Now comes the news that sponsorship could be on the line.

But, despite all of that, what I believe, based on credible boardroom information, is that Ahmad and Stockbridge will stay loyal to Green, leading to Walter Smith feeling he is left with no alternative other than to resign as a director.

Smith, I am told, has already held tense talks with Green, but it is unlikely the crunch will come before Imran Amhad and Brian Stockbridge return from holiday and honeymoon.

They are back this weekend and after they have taken stock there will be a crisis board meeting at the earliest opportunity at which there will be some tough talking. My belief is that Charles Green will emerge from it, still the Rangers chief executive.

Charles Green is nobody’s fool, but he allows his tongue to run away with itself and he must know that he is putting his own investment in Rangers, like that of his friends Ahmad and Stockbridge, plus further income for Rangers, in jeopardy by his recent behaviour.

In the last week Green has undone much of the good work he has put in on behalf of Rangers and many of the club’s supporters are becoming confused as to just what is going on inside the Blue Room.

If Green stays – as I believe he will - and Smith goes, then the meltdown from confused fans and the financial ramifications, could even make what happened last year seem like the good old days. (going into administration and being put in the process of liquidation is the 'good old days'?)

The good ship HMS Ibrox is in need of a 'steady as she goes' order. But plain sailing still seems a long way off.

If I were a Rangers fan I would be a lot more worried about the financial situation than about a few unfortunate words and PR disasters.

SPL HATRED OF RANGERS SHOWS AGAIN

THE sheer intensity of the vicious vitriol being poured over St Mirren chairman Stewart Gilmour surely reveals the burning hatred of Rangers which infects the Scottish Premier League like a rampant plague.

The perception inside the SPL is that St Mirren were nobbled by Rangers. Or at least it looks that way. For surely there can be no other reason why Saints and Gilmour were singled out and not Roy McGregor of Ross County, who also voted against the daft 12-12-18 proposals.

Certainly that is the way Gilmour must see it, given the fact he has made it clear he will sue anyone who even hints at it.

And it would also seem that Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell has a new attack dog to do his bidding and fight his public battles for him in the shape of the ludicrous Aberdeen owner Stewart Milne, whose talk of Gilmour having an agenda sparked the St Mirren chairman's legal threat.

Milneâs outburst and the language he used (if only he'd called Gilmour a P*ki ) verged on the hysterical and was a total disgrace and Aberdeen fans may want to know why he has never seemed to show such aggression and passion when it comes to advancing the cause of their club, a club which has languished under his lack of leadership.

It looks to me as though Milne has now taken the place of Dundee Unitedâs arch Rangers hater of a chairman, Stephen Thompson, the man who led the attacks on Rangers last summer.

Incidentally, we never did learn why Thomson resigned from the SPL board and was then quietly ushered back on to that board. It was a shady deal, shrouded in mystery and suspicion, which pretty much summed up what kind of organisation the SPL is.

But back to the new alliance between Peter Lawwell and Stewart Milne. There were suspicions when the normally tongue tied Milne took to the media at the weekend to speak on behalf of the Celtic-driven reconstruction plans. Plans which fans right across the spectrum of Scottish football have already voted against.

Those suspicions were that Milne had been hand-picked by Peter Lawwell to be his public face. Though so desperate did Lawwell see the situation, he was finally forced out into the open and into to showing his own hand by summoning Sunday newspaper journalists to be briefed by him at Parkhead.

That looked like Aberdeen and Milne acting in tandem with Celtic and Lawwell.

But the full extent of the new Celtic-Aberdeen Axis was revealed when, on Monday, as their schemes faced defeat, both clubs tabled an amendment to the voting structure of the SPL which would have switched it to 9-3.

That was just another example of the SPL making it up as it goes along, another example of many of the myriad mysterious ways the SPL goes about its business. Integrity? The majority of SPL clubs give the clear impression they do not know the meaning of the word.

However St Mirrenâs Gilmour and that highly moral man, Roy McGregor of Ross County, were not to be bought off. Their anchor held.

Since Celtic and Lawwellâs scheming with Aberdeen and Milne has been exposed and since Gilmour and McGregor combined in the most decent, honourable and brave act Scottish football has seen for years, there has been a rush to rubbish them and brand Gilmour, in particular as a nasty, greedy man, with the unspoken accusation always lurking between the lines that he in cahoots with Rangers.

Milne and David Southern have been particularly vicious in what they have said. David Southern of course represents Hearts and the amount which could be written about moral integrity and Hearts since the club was taken over by Vladimir Romanov wouldnât even fill the back of a postage stamp. Second class, of course.

Indeed, there may be many who believe that if the SPLâs Â£200,000-a-year chief executive Neil Doncaster had any integrity he would resign. Perhaps that is what Peter Lawwell feared and why he put out a statement from Celtic which gushed praise of Doncaster. All Lawwell succeeded in doing was making Doncaster look even more like Celticâs puppet.

And if it is Celtic who work Doncaster from behind then what Doncaster said shows that Peter Lawwell refuses to accept defeat. Heâs got another scheme up his sleeve. Is he a poker player from the top draw, aye?

We can take that much from Doncaster saying that he has no mandate from the SPL to talk about any plan B.....at the moment. So there is a plan B, but Peter Lawwell has not yet written Neil Doncasterâs script about it. Is that what's happening?

Doncaster then attempted to pass the buck to the honourable men of the Scottish Football League.

For Doncaster went on to say that the First Division clubs are consistently the biggest losers and that they need more income. Adding, letâs wait and see.

That should set alarm bells ringing in the SFL as it seems the SPL will now try to target the First Division clubs with a combination of bribes, blandishments and if neither work, bullying.

The words may come out of Stewart Milne and Neil Doncasterâs mouths. But there are many who believe the script has been written by Peter Lawwell.

THE LAUGHING STOCK THAT IS SCOTTISH FOOTBALL AND WHYTE (and Rangers)

Well, you’ve got to laugh. Haven’t you! (at you? always)

And yesterday I laughed until the tears streamed down my face (drunk again?). The news from all angles cascaded like the hilarity at a Lex McLean Show (who?)

It started with some company, which was part owner (do you mean owned?) by that old lying twister of a conman Craig Whyte, being merged into another company shyster Whyte appears to have an interest in, claiming they were suing Charles Green.

What happened to the threat from the shyster himself? What happened to Craig Whyte suing Charles Green? Did that go the same way as all the other unfulfilled threats of legal action he has made? Down the plughole!

Is cheating liar Whyte now trying to use some company name, a company he has an involvement with, as a cover for the threat to sue? That would be just about the measure of this significantly small man (I didn't know you and Whitey were that well acquainted!). And as of yet no court action has been raised.

But it was something else about this latest outbreak of what rhymes with Whyte from the conman which led me to laugh even louder and longer. That was an announcement that he wants to sell the rights for a book and a movie about his takeover of Rangers. (I know, it seems any daft **** can write a book these days)

A movie? Who would play the google eyed imposter of a small human being? At first I thought of Ronnie Corbett, but soon realised the short one in the two Ronnies is too dapper, too well groomed and too normal looking to pass for Craig Whyte. (who would play you Leggo? A man who went from hero worshipping Craig Whyte to denouncing him as the devil in just a few, short months)

And then it came to me. A guy who I saw on Newsnight blethering on in a self indulgent way about the right of people in the publkic (do you mean public?) eye to keep their secrets, however sordid. He was described as a comedy actor and his name, if I recall, was given as Steve Coogan.

Now I know a wee bit about those who have made movies and whose touch with comedy was light. Cary Grant being my favourite and his performance with the delicious Audrey Hepburn, the incomparable Walter Matthau and the versatile James Coburn in the 1963 hit Charade – the title song, music by Henry Mancini, words Johnny Mercer, being a classic – is my favourite.

This chap Coogan I had never heard of. Or of anything he had been in.

But his appearance did give cause for alarm. Strange eyes, weird hair and no dress sense at all. And babbling utter tripe. Just like Craig Whyte (as opposed to your little pig eyes, bald napper and ability to babble utter tripe?)

However, my bet is that there is as much chance of Craig Whyte ever actually – never mind successfully – suing anyone as there is of this seedy, sordid lowlife of a conman ever telling the truth. Or of any such movie ever being made.

Certainly two senior judges have already pronounced that they do not believe a word to spew from Craig Whyte’s twisted and diseased wee mouth.

And so a fun day went on with a statement from the Stewart Regan asking for the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League to hand the Scottish Football Association a mandate to ride roughshod over democracy.

Which sounded a bit like Weightwatchers employing Alex Salmond as a role model. What a hoot!

And so to the other cause for my mirth. The announcement from Aberdeen that next season the upper tier of the Dick Donald Stand will be closed.

I knew Dick Donald. I respected Dick Donald. I liked Dick Donald (Leggo likes Dick ). And let me tell all Aberdeen supporters, Stewart Milne is no Dick Donald.

For months those Dons fans who log in to LeggoLand – and there are many, including a number who are national newspaper journalists – have been being told by me that Aberdeen’s managing director, Duncan Fraser, the man who is in day-to-day control of their club, is a rabid Celtic man with a vicious anti Rangers agenda.

And now it seems he has nobbled his boss, Stewart Milne, a man who through Aberdeen’s descent to muddling mediocrity through the last five years, has stayed silent until he chose to start parroting the Celtic line before and after Monday’s SPL reconstruction meeting. (Stewart Milne, CBE, award-winning businessman with a personal fortune estimated to be worth Â£400m - but he's just a wee lapdog to Peter Lawwell )

There are plenty of Aberdeen fans out there on the message boards who want to know why Stewart Milne did not show some of the fire, some of the fury, some of the aggression, some of the passion and some of the eloquence he displayed in fighting what they believe to be Celtic’s corner, in battling for the Dons during those many years on the slide?

The perception among a huge majority of Aberdeen supporters is that their club is in bed with Celtic. And they don’t like it. Nor should they.

Now, I know they don’t like me (no one does Leggo), but the apparent growing closeness between the man in day to day charge of Aberdeen’s affairs, Duncan Fraser, and Celtic, is something I have been warning them about for the best part of two years.

However, because they didn’t like the messenger, they ignored the message. (like the way you ignored the likes of Phil MacGhiollabhain when he warned you about Craig Whyte?)

Who knows, maybe some day there will be a movie made about how Stewart Milne presided over the end of Aberdeen Football Club. Who would the part of Milne?

Unfortunately the perfect man for such a role, Norman Wisdom, is no longer with us.
