    From BBC Sport: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22160271

New financial fair play rules could scupper West Ham's hopes of signing striker Andy Carroll, manager Sam Allardyce says. The on-loan Liverpool striker, 24, is open to a move to the London club. But Allardyce said restrictions due to be introduced next season may prevent any move for the England man.
Allardyce said: "I will still point towards financial restrictions being implemented next season - they could blow the whole deal in one go."

The new financial rules agreed by Premier League clubs mean each team will not be allowed to make a total loss of more than £105m over the next three seasons. They must also limit their player wage bills - and breaching the rules could result in a points deduction. Liverpool paid a club-record £35m to sign Carroll from Newcastle United in January 2011 and would be looking to recoup at least half of that fee if they were to sell a forward who has scored four times in his last five appearances.

Allardyce fears the change, due to come into force next season, could affect his ability to strengthen his side.

"Financially you are restricted to be able to do it," he said.
"So in one fell swoop the financial restrictions mean Andy Carroll can't sign for us from Liverpool because it's too expensive, even if he wanted to.
"I might not be able to afford Andy Carroll, full stop, even if I wanted him, even if the chairmen wanted him, even if we all wanted him - which we do - it will not be allowed to happen."

However the Hammers manager, whose side host league leaders Manchester United on Wednesday, accepted it would take some time before the real impact of the regulations on clubs was known.
"I suppose across the board when you first introduce something new the fair/unfair scenario has to get sorted out somewhere along the line to find out how you have to tweak it to make it better," he said.

Do you think this could leave Liverpool stuck? I think its clear that Brendan Rogers doesn't want him. I think its also unlikely the clubs who could afford him would want him or that the ones who wold want him could afford him. Our ex number 9 could be about to do a hell of a lot of bench warming at Anfield!

Or someone will get one hell of a cut price bargain if Liverpool don't want him there.

    Someone tell that to Mancini.

Dude is unhappy he wasn't allowed to spend enough to get players.

I think it's a ploy from West Ham to get the price even lower

it's another way of saying that Fat Sam splashed all their cash and, given they will be rattling around a massive stadium too soon... the cupboard is bare.
    Oh how my heart bleeds.

Ha, gotta love Fat Sam totally missing the point of FFP. "We want to spend the money (that we can't afford) but we aren't allowed too, arrghhh!!!" - that's the whole point Sam you nugget.

I watched Fat Sams interview, I thought he was going to cry at one point.
If Carroll returns to Liverpool that's a big addition to their wage bill.

It is. If he is going to be used, that's one thing.

IF BR really does not want to play him, though, you have to wonder at what point it is worth it to have someone simply take him off Liverpool's hands. Not trying to WUM, but if everyone else is worried about FFB, and if Carroll is not top of any of the big club's wish list, I can see the point where no one will be in a hurry to pay his wages, let alone pay for the privilege

I'd have loved to see that.

Fat Sham, our favourite ex manager breaking down in tears. I wonder how long it would have taken for the studio to be flooded.

My reaction to this was the same as debooshy. Fat Sham seems to be blaming FFP and even makes comments about how they may look to amend it in future years. The issue isn't the change in rules Sham, the issue is football clubs going bust and getting into huge debt because of mismanagement. Its pretty straight forward, if you can't afford something then you can't have it - surely that makes sense. I actually have some sympathy for the clubs with billionaire owners as they can afford these things and if they want to spend double the amount for a player then let them, its the fact that a) clubs who can't afford it just spend anyway and b) where will these 'rich' clubs be when their owners eventually go away, a host of players the club can't afford to pay you suspect.

But Fat Sham is just being himself, the guys clearly a dunce. However, he does know how to utilise a certain method of football to achieve mediocrity and credit to him for that.

I can see this being a big problem for both AC and Liverpool. AC may well have to make a choice between keeping the wages he is on or playing football. Not many clubs are going to want to offer him the same wages now because of FFP.

For Liverpool it could be even worse. If BR doesn't want him then they are going to need to accept a huge loss on AC or keep paying silly money for a bit part player (in their eyes, not mine). I can't see how that option would help anyone. IMO they will need to use him properly or cut their losses and ship him out at any price.

If it did come down to him being available at a sensible price on sensible wages I'd welcome him back with open arms, though I suspect that's a whole different discussion that has already been well discussed.

Possible scenario: Liverpool wants AC off the payroll. No one wants to sign him on his wages.

Newcastle pay Liverpool, say, £5 million. Liverpool give Carroll £ 5 million.

Carroll arrives home with headlines that he took a 50% wage cut to return to his beloved Toon.

Legend status ensues: face is saved all around.

If it got us a quality goalscorer (which I believe he still is) then I wouldn't care how we did it

Andy Caroll for £5million and within the wage cap ? I'd snap both hands off.
