They both looked knackered today. I hope the lack of midweek games gives them time to recover cos we need them both playing well.

No one can excuse it, we were a shower of **** and quite simply rolled over nice and quitely, lubed ourselves up and just let anal carnage commence. We have been asking for it all season mate, there has been a hammering in the offering for some time. I thought maybe against Liverpool (which might still happen) but really it could and should have been worse which is the scary thing. It would have not have flattered Sunderland to have won by 0-5 imo. It is one of the most crushing experiences I have had as a Newcastle fan.

We weren't as good as some of our fans will make out, we scored three good goals yes but still struggled to keep the ball but I can't complain too much. Thought you suffered from a lack of ideas, you couldn't break through the middle so seemed to play the long ball a lot and obviously Ben Arfa couldn't have the same impact he did in the same fixture last season as he was half-fit and up against an in-form Danny Rose.

It's difficult to comment without taking too much away from Sunderland, we were crap as far as I'm concerned, we seemed to keep running up against a brick wall, in fact one of our worst Derby performances.
No excuse about mid week games or tiredness, in a Derby, you should be running on vapours, and we fielded more than a few who missed the European game.

Shame we couldn't have started with Nail, Cole, Ant and Dec in the back four. Couldn't have been much worse.

Drowning Man Clutching At Straws Looking For Silver Lining etc Department:

The good thing about this result from the Toon point of view is that it puts a lot more pressure on Wigan.

And, er, that's it. Oh, and the sun is shining.

He's already blamed tiredness. The players need to take a long hard look at themselves after that. Also Jonas at LB.....never never again.

I must commend Newcastle fans today on our board, they have been top notch with their congrats, and have been gracious in defeat. As was mentioned, we've waited 13 years for this moment, and I am fookin over the moon! I think we will be safe, and am already looking forward to the rematch next year!

    Well done Sunderland.
For me we now move on and hopefully get the points to keep us up.
Cant blame tiredness for me , Pardew made five changes and they weren't up to it today.

Exactly Pardew is a poor manager, unfortunately with the last 5 games we are right back in trouble.
