As the season draws to a close and fizzles out......... tell us something that we might not know about the Rovers Whilst I was not around then did you know that Bert Tann became the football leagues longest serving manager he was at Rovers between 1949 to 1967. Although Rovers were managed by Alfred Homer for even longer between 1899 -1920 Different times eh nowadays a manager would be lucky to last 3 seasons let alone 18 or 21 years!! Your turn COR
did you know rovers missed out on playing football in a euro competition on a coin toss held over the phone with west ham.
When Rovers fielded Bobby Zamora and Lee Zabek in the FA Cup v PNE in Oct 2000 they became the first League club to field two players with surnames beginning with 'Z'.

CJS are you suggesting that the Mockneys could have cheated on more than one occasion? A painful one this - When both Rovers and City were relegated from the old Division 2 in the 1980-81 season it was the first time that 2 clubs from the same city/ town (outside of London that is) that were relegated from the same division. It should, though, be pointed out that in City's case this was part of their fall from 6th to 92nd in the league in 4 calendar years (6th in November 1979 to 92nd in the corresponding weekend in 1982) which I think is still a world record.
Thanks Rodders in future you can proof read my posts, before I send them out. Good one I bet the Hammers could have cheated as they tossed the coin View attachment 22936 Nice one More painful for City then View attachment 22937 And last but not least Must have been blood! Keep em coming COR I quite like this article keep those facts coming
When Rovers beat Wrexham 4-0 in a Third Division game at Eastville in Dec 1983 three players called Williams scored for the club. David Williams, (Ian Holloway), Geraint Williams and Brian Williams. Only the second time that three players with same surname had done this for any league club.
The first Rovers player to be born was William Henry Quick. Born in Bedminster (!) before the summer of 1853. Bill played just once for Rovers at centre-half in a 1-0 win v Wotton-under-Edge in January 1888. Died, aged 65, in 1918, living at 585 Stapleton Road.
Just got this one off the BBC website after Johnson snr and jnr have just played each other: Lee and Gary Johnson became only the second father and son to face each other as opposing managers. Bill Dodgin (Bristol Rovers) and Bill Dodgin Jr (Fulham) are the only duo to have previously done so, the last of their five meetings coming in 1971!! I thank you!
BB good pick up never knew that one! Keep em coming most be loads more facts that we do not know about our club.
without turning this into a banter thread... im only interested in the last 31 years, so whats the stats for that?
