Not really. You look at the shots, shots on target, possession and corners and it looks like a reasonably close game. We have lost many a game this season with similar statistics. Clearly we deserved to win, but how often does a highly-rated keeper gift us two goals plus our opponents pick up two soft red cards? It was just one of those games when everything went right for us and wrong for Barnsley. On another topic, if this had been a close game where we were battling for a draw or a win, how many of us would have been happy to see Gower, Obika and Kerkar brought on as subs? I suspect there would have been such a cyber-groan arising from not606 that the Good Doctor could hear it in Bristol. Obika has looked less than convincing in his cameos, Kerkar overall poor all season, and though Swansea sent Gower here to get games CP has been scared to give him a run, even as sub, after his feeble debut. Glad Kerkar got his goal though. I think his problem is more lack of confidence than lack of ability. Obika seems another one like Frimpong with a misplaced sense of entitlement.
Obika has said that his object in coming here is to try to get into the Spurs side next season. So if he isn't here with a view to a permanent signing I don't see much point in him being here. Better to give Azeez a run out. It sounded as though he was pretty selfish today, and I don't think The Doctor goes a lot on that.
"What a great result for Chris Powell's side" - just got name-checked on 5Live. The secret to our success is this - Because I forgot to bring it down with me before I went away I failed to wear my shirt to the last two home games, two wins - I was out of the country against Brighton, battling point - I was watching two other teams entirely today, snorting away win. I will not be wearing my shirt against Wolves. Damned hard game at Whaddon Road today, but Cheltenham worthy winners. P.S. BBC just updated our result to 6-0 two minutes ago - and they still can't spell Harriott properly.
Totally agree about Azeez, except than the club might prefer him to stay with the u21s to clinch that title first. I even wondered if they might put Harriott back in the u21s until that is settled now we are safe in the league. Also I guess CP has made commitments to Spurs and Obika about giving him chances. That's exactly what I mean. If Obika really believes he has any chance of getting near the Spurs matchday squad then I would like some of what he is smoking. Kerkar has a better chance of replacing Ronaldo at Real Madrid. We could always play one Harriott in the first team and another one in the u21s as the BBC are convinced we have at least two Harriotts. No doubt they will wise up once he is solving England's left-wing problem which we have suffered for the past 50 plus years since Tom Finney retired. Can anyone remember an England left-winger who consistently held down a place on merit for more than a season, because I can't? Of course, one of the best left-wingers in the world for the past two decades is English. Pity he opted to play (and usually not play) for Wales.
don't worry Tweaks, Sky call him Harriotts now. It just makes it harder for Prem scouts to look at him so perhaps it is the Club's idea?
6-6 home to Middlesborough and 7-6 home to Huddersfield. About the same epoch we lost 11-1 away to Aston Villa. They were the days!
I bet the 11-1 was'nt a fun journey back for the travelling faithfull. All very well seeing twelve goals in a match but when your goalie fishes eleven out of the net, it must put a crimp on the day. Back to today, and judging by the comments, this is one for a history book or two. Six goals without reply away from home. Who'd have thought we'd do that this year back in march. So come next week, are we now looking at the teams above us or below to lose?
They are a few steps ahead of Charlton's official site. The match report there is still headed 0 - 5. The OS also said it was Kerkar's first goal for Charlton. First League goal perhaps, but the African Messi has been a veritable goal machine. I remember he scored another one. Was it in a cup match?
What a report. Just downloaded the pictures as well. I'm still stunned. Cheers Rocky! None too bad a day yourself.
Not my favorite paper, but all credit to them getting a detailed match report with pictures on line so quickly.
9th in the table. Looks brilliant to see us up there. And it's nice to see us finishing strongly for a change! Powell out
Feels a bit like last season today. Charlton win (though I don't remember anything like that last season), Dartford win in front of 6000 at Stockport and Deportivo win 4-0 away, and move out of the bottom three for the first time since, I dunno, november? Man, I'm having a beer or three tonight.
