I've just seen this chart wars thing: http://www.newstalk.ie/Margaret-Thatcher-death-causes-music-chart-battle Wizard of Oz Vs Notsensibles. I first heard Notsensibles - I'm in love with Margaret Thatcher on a punk & new wave compilation I got when I was about 14 and thought it was brilliant (along with Jilted John by Jilted and Toy Dolls - Nelly The Elephant - I was and still am easily amused ), surely there is some irony in the pro-Maggie 'camp' using it as a rival to the Wizard of Oz though, as it's a sarcastic song. As for the whole thing, I don't really get it, she did some bad things and some good things for this country (like every other politician ever in power; she just did it more brutally as she didn't fanny about) - I was only alive a few years while she was in power, so nothing affected me that she did (I wouldn't even know if it did), so I don't see the point in getting involved in something that shouldn't concern me, but it seems the majority of people that are involved in the 'celebrations' are people that were only very young when she was in power, or weren't even born!!! It's mainly just a bunch of scenesters jumping on the bandwagon trying to be cool thinking they're going against the grain. It's 'cool' to hate Margaret Thatcher.
Look nobody wants to repeat the whole debate on every thread. If you weren't around in the 80s just read some of the other closed threads about her and you'll see why people held (and in most cases still hold) their particular views. This thread is just a light-hearted bit of musical banter so lets not make it "heavy man."
