This man is an expert in talking out of his arse

"Newcastle's transformation from a side which narrowly missed out on the Champions League last season to one trying to avoid relegation this year isn't good enough - in fact, it's appalling, especially given the fortune they've spent on players - but they can at least look to move on from this campaign with three points from one of their remaining games. "

Why does this bastard get money for writing such complete and utter bullshit?

Jamie Redknapp is indeed a prize tool.

But I'm not sure I disagree with the quote you've posted there. It's probably one of the few things he's spewed out that has any validity, even if it's born of bitter resentment.

The turnaround in performances this season has been appalling in my view. I wish people would stop saying we OVERACHIEVED last season, we didn't, but we've not shown anything close to that potential this term.
Last season we ACHIEVED, not overachieved and I'm afraid it sets yourself a standard you have to keep up if you want success. All the excuses in the world aren't good enough, it's still our own fault.

To win things Newcastle United as a club has to develop a winning mentality where we're honest about our shortfalls and address them – but crucially make falling short unacceptable.
With all the years we've won nowt, unfortunately there is an acceptance of failure that belies a club of its stature. "Oh well there's always next year" is NOT good enough.

So that's my unflinching take on it – but at least I've said it with love and not tooth-whitened hatred! :D

I didn't bother with the link as I might have had to look at his inane grinning face...

Where is this mythical fortune spent on players? Last time I checked we were in profit in terms of transfers. Much better off than the club his Dad manages anyway. ****ing helmet.

I don't doubt we've not been good enough. But did we spend 'a fortune' on players last summer? If we had, we wouldn't be in this mess. We spent about £15m in January yes, but we needed this to stay up. And even then, that's hardly a fortune given what the likes of QPR, Sunderland and Southampton have spent. Even Villa spent more last summer.

That comment of us overacheiving last season gets my goat, we had a good season, enough said, the league table doesn't lie.
Back to Redknapp junior, the man's a prize chump, what explanation would he give for the excessive spending at QPR, which clearly is not good enough.

Quite right, over-achievement dimply does not exist in sport. You can exceed expectations certainly, but you don't get out more than you put in.

I thought Newcastle did great last season, but I also believe they are capable as players to do better.

There simply hasn't been the same application or desire this season, they are the shadow of the team they were.

Losing Ba didn't help of course! :D

    .

Maybe it's me, but I read that as meaning they should have regressed further, or to be "good enough" would have been to be even more mired in the relegation battle. I'm no great English writing dude, but I do wish people paid to write garbage would at least make an effort to be precise and unequivocal in their expressed view.

I quite like Jamie Redknapp. He's pretty dumb, obviously (he's a pundit isn't he?), but he doesn't take himself too seriously. He's good on A League of Their Own.

I think it's strange how you lot think it's acceptable to struggle against relegation after being Champions League place contenders last season - I think Redknapp's right personally in the highlighted sentence simply because your club did fantastically well last season but has struggled massively this season! At least we've just struggle both seasons!!

The "fortune" we've spent on players? Is he for real?

I'm not aware anyone has said they think it's acceptable to struggle this year?
We could now finish mid table, which by own standards is poor so I expect most fans will be disappointed come May.
Personally, I'm already looking towards next season and hopefully another good transfer window as I have a taste for European Football now.

I never thought we would be struggling in a relegation battle. I also didn't think we would make the quarter-finals in Europa league but we did.
Football is a funny old game.

I'm not sure how you've reached the conclusion we found things acceptable, we certainly bolstered our squad in January, go back to debate on here before that, there was heated argument on many threads, lack of spending during the summer transfer window left us pretty vulnerable, especially as injuries were going against us.
wer're not in a great position, but we've definitely improved our chances.
Sorry, this is in reply to Marcusblackcat on my iPad, mind of its own

How you can get upset at anything that maggot says is beyond belief.

He makes judgements on what he's managed to summarise on the train on the way to the Sky studios from reading the Daily Sport I assume. He's a clueless prat, when Gary Neville is in the same studio as him just watch Nev's face as he sits and wonders what the **** Redknapp is puking up from his stupid mouth. It comes as no surprise given who his ballbag of a father is though.

He should be shoved in a box with his stupid, unfunny, same joke, living-in-the-past, desperate twat of a mate Corden and forgotten all about, please.
