Mind we were crying out for a Ben arfa/marvo type player they completely changed the game we looked a different side, ben arfa was creating absolute panic in their side. Just showed how much we have missed him he is class!

Great performance tonight, Ben Arfa and Marveaux had us playing some sexy football. Now just to keep it up for Sunday.

Besides, you were pretty ****e for the first hour of the game and conceded in your best spell of the game so nothing I saw tonight makes me **** bricks!!

Way way out on markings for me but each to their own. Cisse 3 though? yes he was offside too much but the lad worked his socks off and gave it everything and scored. Krul 4? Did very well. I'm no Willo fan but to give him under a 7 would be absolutely criminal, he was excellent last night. To be honest, across the board the marks are way too low for me. You are expecting too much in my book, we're Newcastle not Barcelona.

 

Disappointed with result last night but not with display. The lads did us proud.
I was disappointed with some fans who left as soon as Benfica scored. Shame they couldn't wait and applaud the lads off.

 

People just automatically put Willo down these days but the guy put in a good shift, he looked as solid as anybody and I have no complaints about his performance last night.

Some of the people around me groaned whenever the ball went near him, more like it was the thing to do, rather than him doing something wrong. He's wearing the B&W top, get behind the guy for Gods sake.

 

We did excellently last night, including the manager. We bested a Benfica team who many consider to be very, very strong.

On a side note, fairly disgusting that the Europa League semi's will be contested by Champs League cast-offs. The rich get richer, and so on.....

Ben Arfa showed his class from his first touch as soon as he came on the field, it just looked like the ball was glued to his feet. He's got a fantastic soft touch and things will only get better now that he's back.

For all the disappointment, the result was a fair one and there looked to be a recognition among home fans that they'd lost out to a genuinely talented side. Just because we aren't Barca doesn't mean I should give lopsided praise to people who I actually think have the capacity of playing better... "Oooh they tried"... Yeah they did, they all worked hard, but they lacked the quality to unlock the Benfica defence. You don't give A*s at school to everyone who "works hard", do you?

For 60 minutes we didn't do much at all. We didn't have quality from wide, we didn't create much and our better players were found lacking overall. They put in a shift, and I and everyone else can easily be pleased with that, but I find it ridiculous inflating hypothetical scores because you think they aren't capable of better. They are.
