I have an old iPod. I think it's running iOS 4, is there a way of changing it to a newer version as alot of the content on the app store is not compatible with the old OS anymore.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Connect it to your computer as you would do to transfer music etc and it should alert you that you need a upgrade of your operating system (OS)

    Try this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972

There is another way as I have rebuilt mime using the Terminal application on a Mac ... Highly not recommended unless you have some experience

Using the USB charger cable, plug it in to the computer which holds your iTunes collection - open iTunes and you should see your iPod as an icon in the sidebar on the left under the 'DEVICES' header... click on the iPod icon and in the main part of the iTunes window you will see information about the iPod - how full it is etc. It should also offer you a button to upgrade the iPod software (if possible - see attached pic) Screen Shot 2013-04-11 at 20.25.jpg

There is a good chance you will be able to upgrade, thought perhaps not to iOS6.

Look like you need to restore to factory settings back up first!
