Well if Ipswich is as bad as many have said then you have to make the best of what there is. The hotel bar will be busy like afterwards.

Last night out I had in Ipswich, I supped 9 pints of some ****e beer called 'tolly cobold' then threw up all over the hotel room. The beer is the worst in the country, the hotel room didn't really look any different.

That was 25 years ago and it doesn't sound like the night lifes got any better.

    There's a pub in Ispwich?

Honestly mate, it was. This isnt 'my town is better than your town', I dont live in Hull and dont think it's particularly good, but as a night out The Wich was dire.

Flippin eck we are staying at the Ramada on both Friday and Saturday but sure we will be ok with the nightlife since we are a bit past skipping the light fantastic these days. I used to live in Cambridge and agree that Tolly Cobbold is sh*te but if we can find some Greene King then that is another matter (hic).

Thanks for the tip about the pub as we were advised that the Station is for home fans but looking at reviews that pub sounds a bit dire! plus looks like a 10min walk from the hotel and past both pubs :emoticon-0100-smile

This is regrettably a game that I'm missing due to a 'family reunion' with the Missus' side of the family (oh the joys..)

I will be going to both Wolves and Barnsley though.

    Obviously Brizzle and Cardiff too!

The Drum & Monkey is now a 'home' pub.The Station hotel, now re-named The Riverside,is the only designated away supporters pub.

I had to meet a Leeds supporting relative in there last time round.Expect plastic cups and little else. The TV wasn't working.

Tolly Cobbold doesn't exist any more you will be pleased to know! <cheers>

Greene King and Adnams Ales are very fine Suffolk ales and are available in most pubs and at the ground <ok>

I used to work in Felixstowe and lived in Trimley Saint Mary (25 years ago now). I seem to remember going to loads of very fine country Inns in Suffolk and drink a beer called Adnams Wherries but I don't think they do it any more. Mary the recipe still exists but it has a different name.

Went to Portman Road on a few occasions.

Thank heavens for that. Tolly Cobbold was only better than a Barracuda Beer i once had @ Boston Speedway way back in 1977. Disgusting stuff. Nats pee. Tolly Cobbold was almost as bad. :emoticon-0108-speec

Surely they have lagers in Ipswich ? <whistle>

Yes. Lager is a safer bet when the beer is crap. I may now take a case of Boddingtons with me just in case.

The beer vibes are not good at the moment.

Honestly mate if you appreciate a good strong and hoppy cask conditioned bitter then look no further than Adnams Broadside or Greene King Abbot Ale! <ok> <cheers> Absolutely gorgeous and it won't take you many pints!

If you like Cider then Aspalls do a fine Cider from Suffolk.
