Reading have decided to have a minutes silence in memory of Thatcher. Do you think it would be observed if we chose to do the same?

I honestly can see it being a bad decision if the club follows Reading and with it being on TV it'll no doubt get picked up by millions of people

I think opinion is so split that any silence is likely NOT to be fully observed and ANY of the Northern grounds.
Clubs should steer clear of this one IMHO.

The powers that be should have more sense than to try to have a minutes silence.

The FA has opted against a minutes silence. First sensible decision that they've made in a while.

Regardless of whether you think an observed minutes silence would be appropriate, any attempt at it is almost certain to be unobserved in the most vocal fashion possible by at least a large minority and quite possibly a large majority of the attendees. Unless the intent is a devious scheme to organise a ceremony showing disrespect for her memory (which would be very clever, if you think about it) the idea has disaster written all over it.

I believe a minute's silence on Sunday would prove to be an immense and historic occasion. Toon and mackem fans united as one on derby day, singing with one voice, expressing their appreciation of all that the woman did for our region.

I liked the minutes silence when SBR died.
The Mackems were top drawer and gave the great man the respect he deserved.

There's no point to a minute's silence unless it's for for a figure associated with the club or a national / international occasion such as remembrance day.
I feel that the minute's silence is happening so much more around football grounds that it will eventually begin to lose it's significance.
Let's face it, a minutes silence would not be expected if Gordon Brown got hit by a bus tomorrow.

Dave Whelan has been on Talk Spurt, saying what a great idea a minute's silence would be.

So there you have it. It's a definite NO then!

Agreed. They were absolutely first class. They saw in SBR someone who had earned their respect as an individual and as a professional. Spot the difference with this weekend!

I know Wigan were planning to but I'm not sure what this has to do with football? Certainly I doubt Ashley and Co would be thinking about it given the ill feeling towards her in these parts.

Nothing to do with football at all.

But then again, Wigan and football don't exactly go hand in hand.

He certainly had earned our respect as an individual and a professional and a gentleman, its a pity that he didn't earn yours, you sacked the poor guy and humiliated him, then had the gall to erect a statue in his name, that statue should have been in Durham City seeing as he was a Durham lad through and through.

Nothing wrong with the good people of Durham erecting a statue to him if they want to.

I think Sir Bobby was an avid Newcastle fan as a kid and was happy to spend time managing Newcastle, no matter how badly it all ended. A sign of how popular he was in the football world was how many people from outside the area coming to SJP to leave floral tributes.

<laugh> Love this old chestnut. One man decides to sack him backed by a very small minority of fans, and it suddenly becomes the whole club wanted him gone and treated him disgracefully.

His statue is exactly where he'd want it to be. At the home of the gods.
