Should he get the number 10 next season?

  1. Yes. He's definitely more suited to the number 10 role than HBA

  2. No. He's making the number 23 his own, and numbers don't mean ****.

Marveaux has created several chances for Cisse, even when he's not playing well. He plays lovely little passes over and through a defence, and is on the same wavelength as Cisse is.

He's much better playing down the center than Ben Arfa is. Ben Arfa is definitely a winger, not a number 10.

I'd like to see Marveaux in that CAM role next season. I know he sometimes drifts out towards the wings, but that's a good thing. If there's no route down the center, he accelerates past players and makes his way to the wing.

EDIT - Put 23 by accident, instead of 22. >< Fancy not knowing wor Shola's number.

Benni made it clear when he came that he wanted to wear 10. I suggest we don't upset him, that has caused a lot of people a lot of problems in the past.

I'd like to see Marv, Benni and Sissoko all start in our 4-2-3-1 next season, and allow them to rotate around as they please. Use Gouffran as our impact player, he could annihilate any tired defenders.

I hope we don't play Sissoko as one of the attacking mids. He's useless in a forward position. He's better making runs from the back, a little bit further ahead than Cabaye. In the CAM role he's easier to mark and deal with. In the deeper, box to box role, he's much more difficult to play against. Look at the first few games!

I guess so, but he always has the chance to do that when he's playing alongside HBA and Marv. At current, he's playing in the CAM with a defensively-minded Jonas on one side, and Gouffran who plays very wide on the other. With those two more natural attackers in there, he can drop back and pick up the ball without leaving Cisse isolated

Come on Tash, you should know better than that, the number on your back dosen't say what position you play in, otherwise Shola would be 1st reserve for the reserve team and Taylor wouldn't even get on the bench!

    What about this formation -

    ---------Cisse------------
    ----Gouff-------HBA------
    ---------Sissoko--------
    -----Cabaye---Tiote------
    Santon--Mbiwa-Saylor--Debuchy
    ------------Krul----------

    Looks canny to me.

Poor young Campbell #49 would find himself playing for the Mackems.

Agree with this completely. Sissoko needs to be starting cm next season. I'm looking forward to seeing something like this:

    Cisse
    Gouf Marv HBA
    Sissoko Cabaye

In terms of shirt numbers, I agree with Darth - let Ben Arfa keep his shirt number, even though he has always looked far better playing on the wing and cutting in. I think he'd take it badly if stripped of his number and I don't want to see that.

The only squad number with any meaning at Newcastle is 9. Every other number is inconsequential

Marveaux is doing very well but he still isn't as good as Ben Arfa.

I know, all I'm saying is the number 10 is usually given to the player directly behind the striker in the hole. Ben Arfa is a right winger, and isn't as good as Marveaux at playing in that hole area. Marveaux seems more suited to that role. Ben Arfa is far better coming in from the wing. Marv seems better that making runs into the center and playing balls through a defence or spreading the play.

Ben Arfa has better skill, pace and is more of a goal threat, and probably a bit more technical, but I don't think there's a huge difference between them. Ben Arfa is just a player that makes you WOW more.

    No Marveaux ?

Eee, if we're not going to bee playing him there's no need to give him a new number, like.

Never mind Tash, you'll be the price of a pint better off tonight, I'm not going to make it to Jarra.

Must say, with either Marv or the Gouff, that is a nice line up.

Who would be the weak link in that. Tiote ? Santon ?

When players like that are the weakest in your line up, things have to be good

HBA is Tino's favourite player at Newcastle. That's good enough for me. He keeps the No. 10

I personally dont think Gouf's good enough to be in the starting XI when Marv is available
