I've seen calls for fair assessments on this thread, so I thought I'd offer my opinion. First let me offer my greatest sympathy for the family... Not of Maggie, but the boogieman, who was too f***ing terrified of frequenting my childhood "be-good" stories and nightmares, for fear that ransid old b**** would take up residence under my bed or wardrobe, just in-case she hadn't satisfied her thirst for strangling the life out of the working classes whilst in office. Poor guy. Without any sort of qualifications where could a boogieman go? The deep dark mines? Oh wait...

She was a hypocritical, self-absorbed tart who not only perpetuated a greater divide in wealth reserves across the population, but tore apart her own government with smug satisfaction. There was some egotistical b****** desperate for his moment of glory on BBC 606 earlier, claiming how loyal she was. So loyal she single handedly shanked her backroom ministers and made her deputy resign amidst some odd analogy involving cricket (typical bloody conservatives clinging to our game like they invented it... you didn't you toff-tossers, you invented the ties and the scones at half-time).

Nearly the only thing that evil hag got right was avoiding the Euro like the black death. Even so, in her proclamations about it's demise she sounded highly wummery, almost as if she was Mr T's original incarnation, rather than a sensible economist (and I think that is conclusively proven by the British resources sold off in that time).

I was barely alive when her reign of terror ended (as a side-note, she openly housed a dictator/terrorist and then made speeches about how great democracy is...), and even I want to spit on her corpse. That is her lasting legacy, however much they throw at her coffin-makers.

David Cameron has just sent his offical letter to the Thatcher residence.

It starts "I regret to inform you that due to recent events you now have too many bedrooms..."

Is there any money left though? He had to buy his way out of getting bummed off a large African fella after his attempted coup in Equitorial Guinea. See not only was she a twat, she even bred twats. Guess what? I don't like Carole either. State funeral? Piss off enough money has passed through their grubby hands to sort out their own.

Poor old Maggie, maybe she really was a woman of the people and we all just didn't understand her.

Being only a nipper and born in '71, I don't remember the winter of discontent and all that.

What I do remember is not seeing my old man for a nearly a year and when I did see him, he looked like ****e - broken bones, black eyes etc....

My old man was a copper.

I love taking my old man out for a couple beers (and whiskeys!) and let him tell me about his life - joined the Royal Navy at 16, left to become a copper when I was born – he has some corking stories to tell, but he will not discuss the miners’ strike. Take what you want from that.

I strongly believe that something had to be done about the grip that the unions had on this country, but unfortunately that is only one part of her legacy and it will never be forgotten up here.

    Will I mourn Maggie? No.

IMO we should put her funeral out to tender, and let it go to the highest bidder - it's what she would have wanted to happen! hahaha

The carbuncle of a housing project on the harbour front here at Porthmadog which is far, far out of character of the local area is one of Den's doings.

I used to meet Denis now and then in London but that's another story another lifetime ago. Never liked him at all.

Dave Whelan spouting ****e again or just totally lost the plot

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22078110

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has called for one minute's silence to be held before his side's FA Cup semi-final to mark the death of Baroness Thatcher.

The former prime minister died in London on Monday, aged 87, after suffering a stroke.

But the Premier League and Football League will not be asking clubs to mark Lady Thatcher's death at their upcoming fixtures.

"We owe Mrs Thatcher a minute's silence," Whelan told BBC Sport.

    ________________________________________________________________________________

now I'm not one for calling ill of anyone who has passed over so to speak
but what exactly did she do for football
