    The 2004 Equatorial Guinea coup d'état attempt, also known as the Wonga coup,[1] was an alleged coup attempt against the government of Equatorial Guinea in order to replace President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo with exiled opposition politician Severo Moto, carried out by mercenaries and organised by mainly British financiers. Equatorial Guinea has vast oil and gas reserves.[2] One US official called it "the new Kuwait".[3] Prosecutors alleged Equatorial Guinea's opposition leader, Severo Moto, was to be installed as the new president in return for preferential oil rights to corporations affiliated to those involved with the coup.[4] It received international media attention after the reported involvement of Sir Mark Thatcher in funding the coup

    I doubt they read Not606 and people are entitled to comment. She had a tremendous (negative) impact on the NE region, after all.

    A relation of mine topped himself because he felt he had no hope of being able to support his wife and three kids after being made redundant under her tenure..So forgive me if I don't take her family's feelings into account..

    I've always thought it was very unfair to place all of the blame at Maggies door, when the NUM and their gobshite leader were just as much to blame for the total demise of the NCB.

    Coming from a family of miners..you have a point about Scargill..however, Thatcher was only too pleased to screw every manufacturing industry (not just mining) in our region firmly into the ground. she was an awful, vindictive bitch who will not be mourned by any working class person north of Nottingham
