Thought i'd kick it off with a fancy in the 3 30 Kelso with stuart cotherd,s Suprise Vendor, he wont be last years winning price, but should be a bit of value- seems to be running into form for the in form stable.
Minimum stakes combo bet on 3 at Kelso who will hopefully all show improvement on a sounder surface, Funky Munky 9/1, Easement 12/1 & Private Equity 11/2. Good luck all
Looks like there are a few nice sorts running in the maidens today. Over at Gowran the opener looks a good race and Lake District is likely to go off favourite after a promising 3rd to Alpinist on dubut but i will be backing English Deer 9/2 who ran green from a wide draw on debut last year and still holds a classic entry. 3.20 Kempton Dalgig 10/3 3rd on debut last year to Chase and Status and form of that race is working out well with the winner finishing 3rd in the Tattersalls 2yo trophy and the 2nd winning next time out. Dalgig has plenty of big race entries and will be expecting a big run today.
Morning, pilgrims. My punting pants and wagering waistcoat are in the wash so it’s a ‘no bet’ day for me today. If I can get a bit serious for a moment though I notice that ‘New’ Labour are this morning wagering war on ‘Payday Lenders’ and High Street bookmakers. Whilst they may have a point with the former why they are attacking the latter is totally beyond me. I’m sure it’s the work of the awful Harriet Harperson who seems to have climbed her way back into the upper echelons of the party and has always has a major downer on the sport. Remember this is in contrast to Mr Cameron who is a confirmed racing man and it was, of course, no coincidence that Sir Henry was knighted so early into his reign after being ignored for 13 years by Mr Boom and Mr Bust. If you want racing to flourish in the future you CAN NOT support ‘New’ Labour who after hacking away at the grass roots for years are now out to get one of the major employers in the industry. Rant over and may I say good luck to those who do wager.
Sir Barney - if New Labour are campaigning to rid us of those terrible machines in high st bookies then I must say its the 1st positive thing they offered since "no more boom n bust" Some bookmakers are now a virtual "no pun intended!" no go due to the clientele these machines encourage!
Sad news that former trainer Mick Quinlan has been found dead at his Newmarket home, aged 55. More here.
Gaz, I do agree totally about the machines. Have never played one in my life and never will. My local Betfred’s on Saturday were giving out free ‘spins’, to punters who had simply popped in to place a National wager, which in my view was akin to the local drug dealer handing out free samples of his wares. However, I’d wager that with Harriet Harperson spearheading this campaign they are out to ‘get’ everything that High Street bookmakers offer. And well I remember, people, the Pipe’s have got that Military Precision (who I’m convinced they are up to something with) entered at Fonters Park on Thursday.
The horse I really fancy today is SUPRISE VENDOR @ 4/1 in the 3.30 Kelso! He looks well handicapped to me, off 95, and he has good course form having won at Kelso twice in the past. Stuart Coltherds horses have been in good form recently, and the ground is never a problem for this fella having won on the soft and on good to firm in the past. The trip is more than fine aswell, 17 furlongs is pretty much his optimum having won over it in the past. I think everything is set up today for him to get off the mark over fences
Afternoon All keep getting drawn to Cruachan in the opener at Kelso, currently 25's so might have small each way. At Kempton, I fancy Might Thor to finally get it's head in front in the 4.20, and at Wolves in the 3.10 I think Colourbearer will at least place. I also like the chances of Kalaroa in the last at Gowran Park, all of these are each way prices, so might also do a each way lucky 15
Black Caviar is not coming to Ascot this year, but she's coming in 2014, won't she be abit over the hill by then? She'll be 8. Seems a strange one to me
Barney, a few weeks ago I stopped in South Tottenham to have breakfast in a caff. This is one of London's most deprived areas, and part of David Lammy's constituency. In a short parade of shops I counted a William Hills, a Paddy Powers, a Ladbrokes and a Betfred shop. I didn't go in, but I'm guessing if I had that in each of them I'd have seen people shovelling money into the FOBTs. So I do sort of see the point. And the 'New Labour' tag's been dropped. Do keep up old boy.
Not strictly true. the trainer said he would prefer it if it was next year as he thinks it will be the end for her. i think the owners will decide and Moody will have to go along with it. I got the impression he never wanted to come here last year. but the owners insisted and it payed off.
