I'm hoping we can do it but on the plus side, if we can go into the last game a point ahead of both Wigan and Villa we will be safe as they play each other on the last day. That's a big if though!!
Sorry but I still think we are going down, don't know why? Call it what you will but we don't have any luck, momentum and even our so called stars look average.
I know Newcastle is the derby and people will take a draw etc but the fact is we desperately need 3 points and this is a game to target that, especially after playing Man U & Chelsea at the worst possible time. 3 points on Sunday would be great but nowhere near job done and I certainly wouldn't be gloating to all my Mag mates as they could still have the last laugh.
Chuck the form book away and take one game at a time. I'm sure the players and management are more than aware of what's needed and how to go about it. The last 5 mins at QPR had me jumping up and down but got yo admit that free kick equaliser was class.
Just done this and I have you guys going into the last weekend of the season on 37 points with Stoke, Villa, Wigan and West Ham all on 38... Could be a very tight end. The results I have you down for are: Newcastle (A) 1-1 Draw Evertone (H) 1-1 Draw Villa (A) 0-2 Loss Stoke (H) 1-1 Draw Southampton (H) 2-0 Win Tottenham (A) ... The Villa, Stoke and Southampton matches are massive and none of them are bankers (Villa on form are a match for most, they've been terrible most of the season though) so i think its vital you get something against us and Everton. You can't expect any team to go 13 or so matches without a win and then win back to back matches against fellow strugglers tbh. Still think you'll stay up though.
Think Wigan will be the team that either keeps us up or sends us down, mind you it's up to us to start grinding results out if we do that then we've done our best which is all we can ask for. Hopefully our luck will change a bit from here on in. Had us down for draws with your lot and Everton (no doubt Osman will be getting shot by a mystery sniper again). A draw at Villa and 2 home wins after that, as for the Spurs game again anything can happen but, reckon we'll get beat. All in all 40 points and safe just
I think thats a fair assessment mate, im hoping for a Stoke/Southampton b2b win though but agree Villa will beat us.
The more I look at it the more i think this weekend is a massive chance for both our clubs, whoever wins will (i think) be alright. We would have 39 points and you would have 34 points but with 4 winnable matches coming up. Also, whereas Villa, Stoke and Southampton will push you to the wire and fight for everything I think we (Newcastle) will be a touch off the pace following our match on Thursday (these midweek matches on the trot have hit us hard this season with energy and injuries, an excuse I know but it simply is true). There's always the slight hope that Tottenham implode like usual in the last few weeks and you beat them against the odds.
Huge mate, the incentive is there for both of us. Theres no way are going to roll over and likewise with you when you know it can make you safe and if your still in the Europa League then you can concentrate on that.
The Newcastle game is the biggest Derby in yonks. If we lose that, its good night Vienna. The fallout from losing a game like that will be huge kick in the love plums. I just hope against hope we approach this game full on..attack from the start. I would hate to go down with a whimper.
Depends on how the barcodes do on Thursday mate if they go for it then we should have a better than normal chance, if Pardew bins it then I reckon a draw probably a loss. Again relying on other teams to do us a favour it's the Sunderland way.
I don't have any axe to grind with you lads and have no reason to wish ill on your club - as long as it's not Wigan that goes I'll be happy - but in this thread and others you seem to expect Southampton to be a home banker. Have to tell you from what we saw at the DW a few weeks ago, and their results since, they're no pushovers. Stoke are awful though.
If we don't view a game at home against Southampton as a very winnable game, then we deserve to go down, but you're right, they are a decent side now
