    .......... who needs one?

We don't even need a 10 goal a season striker, or midfielder, or defender.

How strange would it be to be promoted without a goal scorer in the top 20 in the league.

16 players have scored for us so far and Turner, Mutch and McNuggs (LOL!!!) haven't notched yet. Strangely though no og's either. Didn't they get about 5 for us last year or the one before?

I believe we will need to look at a number of areas to strengthen should we go up. This area is the most needed as I do not think we will be able to rely on as many goal from others on the park in the premier league.

We'd be in the same boat. None of our players have scored more than 10... However, I could put money on Aluko and Fryatt being amongst 15+ goals should they have not been injured.

I think the last team we had a 20+ goal player was Stuart Elliott (left-midfielder) back when we were playing under Peter Taylor in our League 1 campaign, helping us to back-to-back Promotion to the Championship. Elliott finished as the top goal scorer in Europe that Season (33 goals) and he played left midfield all Season.

Fryatt got 16 last Season and Fraizer Campbell got 15 in our 2007/08 Campaign when we got promoted to the Premier League too but we can't seem to get a clinical finisher anymore. Money has put them sort of players out of reach for sensible spending Clubs.

It's a debate we've been having for some time Candy Man.

I did a quick trawl through the last few seasons and most teams that had a player that scored more than 20 goals failed to go up.

Agreed. Always best to have strength in depth, rather than a one man team. The best teams always have players who chip in with the goals.

At the minute, we're finding it hard to get anymore than one a match- in some of the recent games there seems to be a force field around the opposition's goal. It's a good thing we've got a decent defensive & clean sheet record.

The only team who have a 20+ goal scorer are Palace, in Murray, but half of his are from penalties they've conned the ref for.

I think you'll find Charlie Austin, Rhodes and Vydra will take issue with that comment, but it's a fair point about being able to rely on team scoring effort rather than individuals.

The proof of the pudding is in the table. Apart from Vydra at Watford, Burnley and Blackburn aren't exactly taking the Championship by storm.

Yeah sorry that's what I meant.

I didn't know Vydra had that many goals.

At least he didn't get a look in on Saturday evening and add to it.............<laugh> <ok>

In fact, apart from Murray who scored a penalty against us at Selhurst, none of the top 10 scorers has put one in the net against us.

Sparks - hope that's not tempting fate for Austin when we play there in a couple of weeks.

Apart from one shot he was anonymous at our place so hope that continues. Just don't like tempting fate.

I always thought he was over rated anyway.
