What is it with this town?
We are second, Cardiff haven't been crowned champions yet!
We complain that other teams and the media don't take us as a threat!
    come in under the radar?
    we have done that.
BUT NOW IS THE TIME TO STRIKE
YET SOME OF YOU SEEM REALLY APATHETIC!

you all laughed at the Palace thread that seemed to think that we had no chance of getting second cos we we're an "average team"
I say that we shove them ****ing words down their throat and win the league!
Why can't we take top spot?

Patty, I don't know how old you are, but a lot of us on here have failure engrained in our psyche after decades of underachievement!!

We cannot help it. It's the product of sad experience!

I, being a naturally cautious person, always imagine the worst case scenario first and then try and look for reasons to be positive. That at least, goes towards managing expectations and as a result I am rarely shocked by what actually happens.

    However, as far as the here-and-now is concerned with City, I am concerned by 3 factors;

    1. Our form ie. it's not brilliant.
    2. Those 3 games in 6 days.
    3. Injuries.

I am probably older than you mate... I am 37..
I acknowledge your concerns, but it would seem that we aren't the only ones that are in the "injury-to-star-players" situation.
I have been a city fan since I was a wee boy and it kinda strikes me as sad at the way we have a chance to shove the soft southern bastards words down their throats. The ****ing media has written us off, every team located below us geographically, have written us off.

and yet ppl are believing the ****e that they are spouting.
We have NEVER been in a situation like this before, if we fail, we come back next season and go through it all again.
The closest we have ever come to this position was under Peter Tayler and the back to back promotions.
But as we are in an unprecedented position, I say that we should go for it...
there is no harm in dreaming!

Not sure whether I should feel complemented by that or besmirched !!!! Lets just say I'm an 18 year old trapped in a 51 year old's body!!

The things you say are negative are, IMHO, to our advantage. From my point of view, playing down the situation we are in (including the medias perception), reduces expectations and pressure on the players and can only help in advancing their performances. Having said that, the cautious approach must also NOT translate into the all-too-familiar "Library" atmosphere at the KC for the last remaining home games.

My gut feeling is that that last game against Cardiff could have a massive significance. I'll predict no more in this incredibly unpredictable season!

it was a compliment, IF the boys read this website, which I doubt, I am sure they would prefer to have someone that is encouraging to them than the apathy that is: "I dont wanna put too much pressure on them."
is that why the KC is like a morgue? the spectators dont wanna put too much pressure on them?
You know yourself that if you are told constantly that you cant do something, you dont do as well as you think, because the expectation is low.

Root out the failure from your psyche and switch to optimism. Every team in the lower leagues could claim they are used to failure (let's face it I am a fan of Orient too - so I know what it is to suffer) look at our form over the last 13 years - we've been promoted three times) back to back promos too. Okay we were relegated from the Prem but we stayed in one season and given the disastrous management and useless players that was a success.

In the bad coupla seasons (prior to Prem promo) we missed relegation by a hair's breadth - that is success too.

We have rarely had a season wherein we were just a middle ranking nowhere side

And now we're on the threshold of another triumph.

Let's paint our faces HAPPY and enjoy the ride. :)

Last time I looked, Reg, 6 days didn't constitute a week!

I don't think of this board as apathetic or overly negative. Yes, there's a few idiots (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!) but on the whole I think it's quite level headed. I think a self-effacing, gallows humour type of board with an undercurrent of white hot passion and loyalty is the way forward!!! :)

Cardiff have been top of the league for almost the entire season, they are five points ahead of us, with a game in hand(that game being Barnsley at home), after which I fully expect them to be eight points ahead of us, with just five games remaining.

The chances of us catching them now are slim, to zero.

Watford, on the other hand, could still easily catch us and getting promoted is far more important than winning the league, so it would have been better for us if Cardiff had won yesterday and put further distance between us and them.

All of which is completely academic, as we'll get the best results we can, so will Cardiff and Watford, so what will be will be, we're not aiming for second, we're aiming to get as many points as we can.
