Nigel Adkins on time at Southampton: "I cannot thank people enough, they stop their cars when I am walking down road and hug me."
To be fair if I saw him walking down the road I would stop and hug him, it's still like a painful breakup with a girlfriend!
Just watched MOTD. Supported the idea that our first goal was perfectly good...compared courage (stupidity) of Boruc vs that of Federici. Their ghost goal didn't cross the line...but I want to know how did Boruc throw the ball out whilst going backwards...basicially, Jim, he broke the laws of physics. Praised the way Saints players work with each other. Lineker questioned the fact that Lawro never goes for saints wins...Lawro denied it!!
Yeah, I know. I posed the question earlier today. I came to the conclusion that he must have strong fingers and basically he flicked the ball away. That's really all I can think of.
Caught up on a few papers this morning. Generally good write ups, although the decision seems split on whether it was Lambert or JRod who set up Lallana!! One even called Boruc a liability...obviously hasn't seen other Saints GK performances. Special mention goes to The Mail who called us a 'reasonably competent side', but said that any moderate side willing to graft would be confident when playing us. Not our best game, but a tad harsh...still got an axe to grind at The Mail.
By the way guys - 8 of us sat in Corporate yesterday at the opposite corner to you guys and have to say the support was "terrific' great noise and witty songs etc WELL DONE ... We all leapt up when we scored too! VWS
Good trip to Reading yesterday - and i must say a big thankyou to the much maligned Saints ticket office + Reading ticket office for arranging a reprinted ticket for my best mate's nephew who somehow lost his ticket, but they managed to get a replacement issued for us shortly before kick-off ! Saved him 2 hours waiting outside the ground on his own ! Saints were not on top of their game for the first half hour or so, but they managed to keep on top of the situation and then get a grip on the game - Reading were doing well attacking early on and should have taken the lead, but did they fade as the game went on ! You can see the Nigel has an impossible job on his hands to keep thme up but they will come back strong next season with him in charge. Ramirez was really off colour yesterday and what a difference when Lallana came on, whereas Ramirez wasnt getting close enough to his opponents Lallana was right in there. JRod & Lambert were superb and their link-up play is just getting so good with each game. Our midfield was terrific 2nd half when they got their passing game going. If we were just starting the season now i think that this Saints side would finish well up the table, so lets hope for really good stuff next season and silly 2nd season syndrome or whatever they label it. Great time to be a Saints fan right now !
Mauricio says he changed tactics because you can't play our normal pressing game against a team that just kicks the ball in the air. He may use the same method against WHU, but I suggest we stick to our normal style as it may explain our slow start yesterday. I think our players aren't quite ready for two styles of play....keep the opposition away from the defence, please. He also said how he likes the English idea of drinks after the match...what do they do in Spain? Just chuck the opposition out!
I'm confused. Why would jumping backwards mean you couldn't throw a ball forwards? Believe it's called a fade in basketball.
Most of us couldn't do it...must be a skill you can learn. When I fall backwards, my hands go with me and I certainly couldn't get any forward momentum on a ball.

We have definitely adjusted our tactics following the Newcastle defeat. The high press is still there but we didn't see Schneiderlin go beyond Lambert or Rodriguez to pressure defenders on the ball because teams will simply hoof it up and saints will have few players to battle for the 2nd ball.
