Fernandes has confirmed there will be departures from Rangers regardless of what happens over the coming seven games.

“We will have to sit down with Harry and discuss who we want to keep and who would go,” he said.
“Obviously there will be players that will go regardless of if we stay up or go down. We want players who can give a lot to the club for a long time.

“I do see players going, but we do have the nucleus of a good squad now which we have had to rebuild.
“Every single player who has left QPR has not stayed in the Premier League and I think that shows how much rebuilding we had to do.”

Still talking the talk. That is great but we must wait and see what walking the walk looks like.

I wonder who he sees as the 'nucleus of a good squad'? If its the same players as my own view then he will likely have none of these when we are relegated. I'm getting seriously concerned that the club are burying their collective heads in the sand when it comes to planning for the consequences of going down.

"We want players who can give a lot to the club for a long time."

Hopefully that means that we will no longer become the retirement home for over the hill footballers.

We need players in their early and mid 20s, who still have hunger and a point to prove.

Methinks it's time to start pickling the fickle again. Don't mention the T word. It will give DT the opportunity to proclaim a holy war on all you infidels again.

I'm afraid that I think Mbia and Hoilett will leave if we're relegated.

    Green

Onuoha - Hill - Ben Haim - Traore

    Mackie - Faurlin - Jenas - Ephraim

    Bothroyd - Campbell

Surely this team can get promoted from the Championship. And this is assuming Cesar, Boswanker, Samba, Fabio, Hoilett, Taarabt, Mbia, Park, Granero, Diakite, SWP, Barton, Townsend, Remy, Zamora, Johnson and Cisse all leave.

Ephraim, Haim are not good enough, we will need a better forward line too.

That looks a mid table team to me.

Really? Bothroyd was excellent for Cardiff in the Championship and Campbell did very well at Ipswich. Ephraim was pretty good when I saw him in the 2010-11 season (Reading away excluded). Ben Haim I'm not certain about. A new CB could do there. And If you really aren't convinced by Bothroyd, Campbell and Ephraim, there is no guarantee that Hoilett, Zamora and Johnson/Cisse will leave.

The concern than I have after looking at the speculative 2013/14 Championship squad (above) is that it is very much a case of back to the past. With a few exceptions it is pretty much what we had two years ago, which means each and every one of them will be two years older. If that squad gets promotion then we're straight back where we started, knowing full well that it isn't good enough to compete in the Premier League the season after, so the Rs will have risk making pre-season wholesale changes.

    Plus ce change.

Sadly, the best prospect is to keep hold of the best players in the squad, which means retaining Remy, Samba, Mbia etc. This is a big and costly ask, but is Mr Fernandes willing to finance top wages for a season in the second tier, or perhaps at least until the January 2014 transfer window opens?

DJ and bothroyd will be good squad players but they shouldn't be starters. Ephraim is just ****e.

I would just replace Harry with Christian Gross.

Jenas is only on loan I believe. Only one who should go regardless of which League we are in, and regardless of financial consideration is the Korean who is Park.
