Lol Stick - I've looked at so many in this wide open race and already backed two (had a "saver" on Grandad's Horse) What the hell - lets make it three then! Heis: I wouldn't mind Katie sitting on MY family tree Edit: Loving this Aintree meeting - so much better when work isn't getting in the way! However, I need to do a Tesco run, or I don't eat. And I'm grumpy when I'm hungry! Later chaps
Morning, crew. I see old girl Katie has gone from âmedia darlingâ to âpantomime villainâ almost overnight following her âtheyâre only horsesâ line. Mr Henderson should have a couple of very easy, and I do mean very easy, successes courtesy of My Tent or Yours and old boy Sprinter. But with the double paying around 5/6 canât see myself getting involved. Am intrigued to see how Walkon gets on over the National fences. Heâll either love them or loath them. If itâs the former then 25/1 does appeal. Meanwhile, the same yards The Pirate Queen ran an absolute stormer on debut behind Mr Hendersonâs highly regarded West Wizard and a reproduction of that level of form would see her go very close in the âlucky lastâ. However, my big worry is that sheâs only a 4YO and this race is a very stiff ask of one so young. Good luck if you do wager.
Stick: Good morning! Your comment for some reason brings back sad memories for me, back to 1998 when connections of my favourite chaser ever, One Man, decided to run him over 20f on soft ground at Aintree after winning the Champion Chase at Cheltenham just 16-days earlier, in which he gave an absolutely stunning display of jumping to demolish a decent field. I can put hand on heart and say that before this Aintree race I said "why oh why are they doing this?" I guess I am of the old school (and how!) and have always thought that 16-days is an insufficient break for even a top-class racehorse after he has won such an important race as the Champion Chase? Very tragic. One Man's death at Aintree to this day still fills me with sadness. RIP One Man, the all-white wonder jumper! Have a successful day, mate!
From Paul Nicholls Betfair column on Rocky Creek: "On the book, he probably put up his best effort to date when winning at Ascot last time, but I am not so sure. I think he can be better than he showed that day. Let's hope so anyway. He had earlier travelled and jumped with real purpose when winning at Warwick, and this has been the long term plan for him for a while and he comes here in fresh and in real good order. His last two wins have come on soft ground and this could possibly be the fastest surface he has raced on; but he has handled good ok in the past and hopefully that won't be an issue. This race has cut up to just six runners, but you can give all them a chance. But I'm looking for a big run from my horse." Here's hoping .................... I think he will be OK on the ground and has clearly been laid out for this.
My reference was to Synchronised Swanny and it wasn't hindsight. I said in the days running up to the National that he shouldn't be running. One occasion when I wish I had been wrong. After a horse has won a championship race at Cheltenham I really think it is unnecessary and dare I say greedy to turn them out again at Aintree. AT FISHERS CROSS is a lovely young horse with a huge future. I don't believe conditions will suit him today. Why risk him?
I still think At Fishers Cross will win, he won quite easily at Cheltenham, and I don't think he had the hardest race. The grounds obviously a slight worry, but there's no evidence he won't handle better ground, and his action is hardly that of an out and out mud lark. I was worried about Our Vinnie, but now he's a non runner I see no reason to oppose AFC
I was in the bookies on Weds lunchtime and got chatting to Olly Casey, he said he rides flemenstar out every morning and they reckon it's never been better. Will give SS a serious race.... I'm in Lpool by the way. Went yesterday, backed L'unique and Captain Conan so didn't lose. Avoiding ladies day like the plague, state of some of the people there today. Give the city a bad name.
Just to add as well, he had a terrible lisp so whenever he mentioned Sprinter Sacre it was very hard to keep a straight face!
Morning All, not much betting wise for me today, will have a go at the placepot at Aintree, but may well be a day for fav backers, although am pretty sure one of the shorter priced ones will get beat, but which one is the question? Anyways for what its worth, here are my ones to avoid today 2.00 Zuider Zee 12/1 - This race really should go to My Tent or Yours, and quite comfortably really, but the fact that it has run at Cheltenham puts me off and besides I couldn't back it at that price. The selection has a fairly decent record on the flat, will relish the ground and looked quite good on it's two previous outings over hurdles, finishing second on it's hurdes debut to Minella Forfitness (who runs later today) at Doncaster on good going before scoring impressively at Ayr over the 2 miles. Granted it did'nt beat much, but couls be open to any sort of improvement and for me offers the better value in this race behind the favourite. 2.30 Sea of Thunder 7/1 - The betting suggests that this race is between Dynaste and Rocky Creek, but I think the Irish raider here has as good a chance as both of them , with both of it's previous wins coming when the going has Good in the description, has won before when coming back from a break and could well be understimated here in this race. 3.05 Flemenstar 6/1 - Not a race to get involved in, as it could well turn out to be another jumping exhibition from Sprinter Sacre, however, I think the step up in distance may well bring it closer to the field and as such, if I were to take him on, I would be backing Flemenstar in this, who at this price is an eacy way bet to nothing, and for me is a lot better horse than a lot of people give it credit for. 3.40 Walk On 22/1 - The Topham Chase over the National Fences is a complete lottery and congrats to any one who does find the winner. Like yesterdays Foxhunters, you may as well just pick a number and hopes your horse gets round. Obvioulsy you need a good jumper, but you also need a lot of luck over these fences, having said that I think at 22's Walk On is worth an each shout in this one, as it is now five lbs lower than its last run at Cheltenham, but then there's my problem is that it did run at Cheltenham, but at the price is worth a small stakes wager maybe. Others worth looking at maybe Little Josh and Tartak. 4.15 Yesyoucan 10/1 - I cant for the life work out why you would want to run At Fishers Cross again this season, and for me this could well be the short priced fav that gets beat today. The one I would be going for is Yesyoucan, who won impressively last time out at Carlisle and I think the step up to three miles may wel suit the selection. 4.50 Native Gallery 14/1 - Has won on both of it's previous visits to the Liverpool track, the only downside is the lack of run, but if fully fit, could be worth backing in what is quite a wide open contest. 5.25 Cailin Annamah 14/1 - I am no good at picking out winners from these sort of races, but this one looks really wide open, with a lot of horse having won last time out, however, I thought this one lloked good in its win at Wexford on it's previous outing, on similar going and so would be my pick today. Away from Aintree, the cards are not as good as yesterdays but also like Bill of Rights and Skyfire at Leicester and Kings Chorister and Bridlington Bygones at Sedgefield. Meanwhile tonight at Wolverhampton, Actonetaketwo is out again in the opener, and if running anything like its last outing, should go in tonight.
could any of you fine people mind putting up pricewise picks today.at a poxy wedding today so will miss most of the racing
Interesting post from Ron on Timeform's view on the Melling Chase, and comparing Sprinter Sacre's rating to Arkle and Flying Bolt. http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...-the-race-of-the-season?p=4526098#post4526098 It's not the race of the season, arguably the Aintree Hurdle was yesterday although only two horses fought out the finish and The New One sure is one for the future! There's no doubt he's the most promising novice hurdler. As for the Melling Chase, I think Flemenstar is more likely to finish second than Cue Card, but both will give Sprinter Sacre something to think about.
Pricewise you sponge - you saw my comp entry for Sea of Thunder! I'll have to increase my bet now - it's not often he copies me Then get stuck into a spot of lunch - making myself a little ploughmans with extra strong cheddar, and to go with it, a nice cool cider (Bulmers with pressed grape)
Coral are laying Sprinter sacre to win by 8 lengths at evens. Also 6/4 is available elsewhere for 10 lenghts or more. Thoughts?
2.00 MTOY 2.30 rocky creek 3.05 SS 3.40 Gullible Gordan 4.15 AFT 4.50 Cotton mill and Barbatos (both ew at 11s/12s yesterday) 5.25 - As you can see Im predicting a favorites day!
It will definately be over 10, I'm pretty convinced of that. He has won his 8 chases by a combined distance of 114 lengths, and has never come of the bridle. If Geraghty decided to ride him flat to the boards, which I'm sure he wouldn't, he could beat this lot by 30 lengths easily
Away from Aintree been given Lord Luso and Iktiview (kirby double for Kyle James) and Exotic Man (named after Stick apparently) I got them at 5s and have done singles and EW round robin stay frosty
I've just pulled Sam Waley-Cohen's horse (Oscar Time) in the coalface sweepstake re tomorrow's big race. Quite upbeat about that as it's never a bad thing having the forum's favourite Corinthian on your side. People the bumper tomorrow at Aintree is a real corker. Purple Bay, Wilde Blue Yonder and Mr Henderson's Tistory amongst others. More potential stars of the future on show than at an X-Factor audition.
I think Clerks Choice has shown a bit of his old form back under Michael Banks and could be potentially well for his handicap mark in the punters club handicap. I will have an each way play at 40/1
