There's two massive games this Saturday, two games that shall remind us where we have been, & where we are from, & maybe, what we are made of. The obvious one is our visit to Reading, it does not seem that long ago does it! (steeeeeeevvvveeeee who?) The other, a battle to stay in the Championship, two clubs we fought a great battle with over two seasons, Huddersfield & Peterborough. It took the hudders a long time to get out of L1, will Robins be able to stop a quick return journey? And then there's Sunday, or bloody Sunday as it should be names as Wigan look to end any Qpr fans hope of some amazing Harry survival story. And that's just forgetting Di Canio's trip to London....no not war crimes, its a football match.....& the biggest sporting cup final in the world, the JPT. Wow, catch your breath, its going to be an exciting weekend.
So Saints could win and Wigan lose and we will be all but packing for our summer hols....yeah right, this is Saints remember. We nearly blew it last season...I would never have survived the play offs!! I'm sure we will be safe, but we never make it easy on ourselves.
Still, we are in a bloody good position going into these games. And with the luxury of wanting Qpr to beat Wigan, well, it could be a lot of fun. Just imagine how relaxed we'd all be if we beat Reading.......but as Fran said, we never do things the easy way, so we might have to wait a tad longer.
Lets face it the one good thing is we have got a good amount of points on the board not enough maybe, but we got them. The difference is the teams in the bottom 4 haven't they have yet to get them. So unless they are likely to pull off the type of victories we have had they are likely to struggle. Not a good time to be playing them down there perhaps. We will have to prove our pedigree and continue to prove it in every game, including the Reading game!
If we get a couple more wins, it would be extremely unlikely that all the teams below us would pass us. Wigan and Villa have to match us plus get an extra 4 points. And then there is the GD.
You must also remember that anyone can win on their day. A slip, an OG, a penalty can all turn a game. I know we are better than Reading and should win, but games don't always go the way you expect. However, I do expect us to win.
Yes, I fancy Stoke to put an end to any relegation talk for them and win this one. Even if we do screw up at reading I can't see Villa & Wigan both winning. Would prefer to be 4 points above Villa as they have fewer games and fragile confidence.
I hope it is a physically brutal encounter and that it proves very expensive injury/booking wise for both clubs.
As a wise man once said "Control the Controlables". We should only be focusing on our results and not worrying about those below/around us. Sure it'd be good if Wigan and Villa lose but it's in our hands and we need to keep it that way by. I would hope that MP has the lads on top form and hungry for the game on Saturday and that they will do the business.
