Flipping hell this is not very good news..... the only bright spar is that Raylor will be on the plane to Benfica.... if only with a watching brief...

    http://www.nufcblog.com/2013/04/01/debuchy-injury-worse-than-first-thought/?

While Davide Santon, Cheick Tiote, Sylvain Marveaux and Tim Krul could all be available for the Benfica game, Alan Pardew has said it doesn’t look like Mathieu Debuchy will make the Thursday game or the Fulham game next Sunday.

That’s not good news for Newcastle, and the hamstring injury that Mathieu picked up just over two weeks at Wigan after just 12 minutes, seems to be worse than first thought.

It looks like his hamstring injury could take longer to recover from than first expected, and he could even miss the next four games, that end up with the local derby at home to Sunderland on April 14th, which is a relegation 6 pointer.

Alan Pardew is now under some pressure after a dip in league results have put us just 3 points above the drop zone, and he had this to say in the Evening Chronicle today:

“I think all those players I mentioned have got a great chance for Fulham, of course.” “Whether they make Thursday, we’ll have to wait and see. I don’t think Debuchy will make Fulham.”

“I think it was difficult for the players coming in. We perhaps had too many players missing.” Yet Pardew hopes to have a host of returning stars on tomorrow’s flight to Lisbon.”

“Marveaux had a slight groin strain in the week.” “I was a little bit worried bearing in mind we’ve got Benfica and then Fulham, which is probably more of a winnable game.”

“I didn’t want to lose him. Cheick could be OK for Thursday, and Santon was perhaps a day’s training away from being involved. Sadio’s close. Tim’s close. I need them all back for Thursday.”

“We know the next two are really important games for us.” “We know at Wigan we were unlucky.” “But on Saturday we got well beaten by a team that was better than us.” “Benfica on Thursday: we’ll certainly be better, whichever XI I field.”

It was the way we lost on Sunday that is so disconcerting to many Newcastle fans – and the lads need to do a lot better in Lisbon, but even if we can get a good result against Benfica – we are still fighting for our lives in the Premier League, and must try to get all 3 points on Sunday afternoon against the Cottagers.

Not great news but has no impact on the Benfica stuff anyway as he isn't in the European squad. It sounds like we'll have Haidara, Santon, Perch, Simpson and possibly Raylor available for Fulham so I think we should be ok.

We do need him back though as he gives us the high tempo performance we sadly lacked on Saturday across the board.

Not even surprising, our medical team is an absolute farce.

Hope he is back for the derby. The difference between him and Simpson is absolutely astounding. I was never a massive critic of Simpson until I seen how much better debuchy is. Simpson really lets us down on that right hand side. **** defending and shocking going forward.

The sheer amount of injuries, the sheer amount of times they have thought a player would be back at a certain time, than pushes that date further back.

I do believe the stats show Newcastle have one of the worst levels of " injury days " in the PL over the past 3 years. Too many players come back from injuries yet are out again fairly soon. You just have to look at Cabaye and Ben Arfa for that.

    I blame the weather..............

In all seriousness we were actually ok last season injuries wise. Not great by any stretch but a lot better. This season is quite a simple one for me injuries wise. We went into the season trying to play a huge number of extra games with the same size squad. Complete botch up by management and board. To be fair they have acknowledged this and tried to put it right.

Cabaye's back, Haidara's back, Tiote's back, Santon's back, Krul's back, Colo's nearly back, Debuchy is out for another couple of weeks, maybe.

    Things aren't all that bad.

I wouldn't read too much into the days lost stats, they are very misleading. If you have long term injuries they are massively skewed. And it all depends who is injured. We were much better last year as I say. Not great but a whole lot better. Take the first 11 games. I think we hardly changed the team. We then paid for it over the winter period but it was mainly at centre back. The towards the back end we again were able to pick a settled side.

The results from that speak for themselves. Problem is we kept the same numbers and crossed our fingers that the extra games wouldn't tell. They did.
