I'm largely with Chazz's OP. However, I would add that Gedo just didn't look back up to the pace yet, but he will be. Boyd just looked knackered and lethargic from the start. What a curate's egg of a game from Koren. He jumped out of two tackles, but later tracked back on a separate occasion, got stuck in and retrieved the ball - weird! He was just too in and out of the game for me. There were one or two flashes from Simmo but again not enough to warrant his place in my humble view. Alex Bruce is good defender but not a midfielder, but at least he puts himself about a bit and doesn't mind getting hurt. We missed Meyler and Quinn (from the off) and thus their midfield were able to dominate. We seem to want to do promotion the hard way, I know that's true but it feels like it! However, all credit to Watford they had a chance and put it away. We'll be back firing on all cylinders on Saturday...UTT BTW I was sat in W1 and in the 2nd half I saw SB giving Elmo a right going over with Elmo looking suitably chastened. Anyone else see that or better still hear it?
We lost the game in midfield as we had Koren & Boyd who have predominantly played this season as a second striker and we had Bruce who is a centre back!
ISTPLT - I deliberately made it clear that I had experienced the game through commentary and not attendance, I also use questions and terms like âmy question is . . âand âperhaps . . .â to draw other opinion. Most of my opinion is drawn from having seen other games, read expert comment and listened to post match interview; I know how many goals we have scored and I was able to read last nightâs team sheet, so no need to attend for that observation. Goochie questions the difference their GK made, just as I did - it does not detract from his performance though. tigercity shares my doubts about Koren - are we alone in this? My view of Simpson is one that has grown over the season â unless you can show me a goal-scoring record that refutes it? Coupled with my experience of football and what was a good commentary on 5Live, I donât believe I forfeit any right to offer the questions and selected views that I have written on here; itâs a discussion, a forum, not some pompous editorial only allowed by attendance â I have read the views of many who attended and they vary dramatically; thatâs life and how opinion evolves. What is it about my comments that you disagree with, or more particularly, what element does non-attendance render valueless? Do you believe Boyd is an out-and-out striker? Is Alex Bruce best suited to the role of centre-midfield? Do you believe we are consistent, in a good way (this view has to come from a longer period than one game? If I had disguised the fact that I was not there then you would have a point, but I didn't; I am happy to discuss any aspect of the pros and cons.
Nice to see the knee jerk hissy fitters out again especially some of those on Radio Humberside post match last night. Thankfully Steve Bruce summed up the game perfectly post match imo. I would agree though that we were not at the races for most of the first half and the more i see of Deeneys goal the more annoyed i get. Good strike yes - but he should have been shut down quicker. Its over and we move on.
Why bother listening to Radio Humberside? Its a joke and the people who ring/text/tweet in to them are mostly morons 3 points Saturday is a must as Watford have the league leaders to play and we could be 4 points clear of them with 5 to play
Somebody actually said last night on the radio "We had nothing to lose!" I think its clear to see we did.
Yes - see my reply to ISTPLT. Seriously, I would like you to tell me, what element of my post needed attendance; if I am wrong I will put my hands up?
I recall a week or so ago (before Hudds and Watford) when we were discussing the 'big games' I and others argued that it is the next game that is the big one, although I did say that I felt the Boro game would be critical and I do believe it now is.
1) In the vain hope of some sense callers/tweets/emails being aired. 2) Yes. Watford could be back to square one before they ko on saturday. They look as though they could have lost Fitz Hall to injury. Looks like Cardiff have one hand on the title now. Especially with there game in hand @ home next tuesday to come against Barnsley.
Who said there keeper only had Boyds chance just before half time to save. Didn't anyone see the Simpson chance in the second half that most people, even me,thought was going in it seemed to go under the keeper but rebound from his back just missing the far post, that was a match saver by their young keeper. The Boyd one he got lucky as he had already dived and it hit his legs.
Last night casetti had him stopped pretty much all night and on occasions elmo did break free he had 2 men on him resulting in most of his crosses very early which doesn't get the speed or trajectory that elmos crosses usually get so they weren't particularly dangerous, elmo has looked out of sorts for the last few games now, whether it's due to fatigue or a kniggling knock or the opposing managers game plan, not quite sure but he is lacking that killer pace he had before
I have no idea why Quinn and Evans were not starting. You could see when they came on what a difference it made to the midfield as those two press the opposition and don't give them time on the ball. Don't like to criticise Bruce but I think he got it wrong last night.
It was up the other end from me so I'm happy to be corrected until I see it again, but that seemed a pretty standard save to me, and only looked like it was something special because of how close it came off him to the goal, and if we'd conceded a goal like that from there questions would (rightly IMO) be asked of Stockdale.
When Fitz Hall limped off and Lloyd Doyley came on i thought that would turn the game. But when Prince Buaben came on near the end that just took the biscuit.
Thought their keeper looked distinctly average and lacking in confidence. Fair play cos he is no 2 to Almunia, but he was not overly tested last night. Seemed to ride his luck at times. He did what he needed to do- just, but our shooting and crosses were below par.
But he isn't a top half Championship keeper is he. He was Watford's No2 keeper because Almunia was injured, and where did I say that without him we would of won the game. What I said was we could of been 2 or 3 up if it had not been for the saves the lad made and that is FACT. Try looking up the match stats before rubbishing the team performance. City 15 shots,Watford 6. On target City 10, Watford 3. Now if that is no guts no glory I think there are a lot of idiots here that need a reality check
