http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...ws-in-brief-from-across-English-football.html Not a lot but one to file away and possibly bring back out in the summer. DTLW
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb-BfqRei_A gets sent off here for shoving someone in the face. Don't know anything else about him. If we have a budget of 30 mil to spend over the summer I would be delighted to see that spent on 2 15m standard centrebacks and nothing else. We should be able to attract the likes of Sane but I want to see someone with world class potential come in. A mid-table finish would remove any doubt of relegation and would go a long way to ensuring Southampton is an attractive proposition. It's our lack of european football that will be the only stumbling block for big time signings I feel. Cortese has everything else covered.
Would easily be able to construct a Cypress Hill themed chant from his name...and for that reason i'm in.
A bit more information here. http://www.clubcall.com/southampton/saints-in-bordeaux-bedrock-chase-1570281.html
Can't see us buying another centre half, in fact, i don't see us buying many players in the summer. Maybe 1 midfielder?
Having seen him one (in Europa League against Newcastle), I will proffer him professional opinion, honed by many years of close scrutiny of footballers: He's big. Like, really big. Don't remember how he played, but was thoroughly impressed by his bigness. He can play as a defensive mid, as well. Which is impressive, what with the big.
We need better CB's if we are to go to the next level. Hooiveld and possibly Yoshida and Fonte will be left behind in our progress, much like Chaplow, Richardson, Martin, Barnard etc.
On second thought, probably 1 midfielder and a Full Back. I think it might be quite a boring summer for incomings, not that i have an issue with it as i think our team is pretty reasonable.
So the 3 centre half's who have played all our games this season are not good enough?, yet the one who can't get in the team is?..........that makes sense.
Excuse me for being ambitious, but I want more than pretty reasonable. I want Saints to build a quality side that will constantly get into the top 8 of the PL.
They're good enough for mid to lower PL, but I want, and Cortese wants Saints to get Saints into the top half of the PL.
In all honesty, i can't imagine saints will ever be one of those top 8 teams, however, acheiving somehting like Swansea is quite possible. If you look at their team iw wouldn't say it's much better than ours, especially not their defence.
We've got the financial clout and the leadership. Most of our signings have been on the money so I don't see why we won't continue to sign players that will better us. It's not the next step, that's becoming a mid table team but I do not see why we can't break into the top 8 over the coming seasons. We have the perfect combination of the ambition and the means.
