Morning Peeps, We have lift off, well, Warnock has anyway.... But where did it all start to go wrong? You'll recall last Summer Warnock had the majority of the fans on side, and told the YEP, it was the main reason he stayed in the hot seat. It would have been a lot easier for him, had he made his excuses and left. Nobody would have thought any worse of him!!! My main disappointment was all the excuses he came out with, each week we lost. He blamed bad luck, named / shamed players or his dog ate his homework. We wanted to see his passion from the touchlines, we wanted to hear his passion and reassurance after a defeat. He did not hold his hands up for bad tactical decisions, poor signings or failure to see out the final 10 - 20 minutes of games. After speaking to the press after the game, it was clear that he would be gone within 24 hours. Well done to Leeds Utd in rubber stamping that decision, followed by a statement an hour later. Its one of the only times, we the fans have been kept informed of on goings at Elland Road. Who's gonna be the next Leeds Utd boss, thoughts please... Morning Eland and all. Where did it all start to go wrong? It never got going at all for him. Personally I believe it's just been a lot of calamitous stuff coming together at the wrong time. Takeover was a twelve month distraction followed by a washout. Two best players we had when he arrived Snoddy and Becchio both jumped ship and correctly so. Add to that the fact he is clearly deluded and has an ego the size of Mt Everest. Bartons statements about Warnock when at QPR were spot on. He reminds me of Trapattoni with Ireland at present, alienating any of the players he doesn't fancy. As for the list of prospective managers, at this moment, I couldn't even be bothered reading it. Until we get new owners with substantial investment, were probably facing relegation next season if not this. As for well done to Leeds for rubber stamping the decision, I dont agree at all. Warnock walked, simple as. That was clear from the 8pm interview so club had no choice. If they had done it a month ago, Id have said well done. Of course, that was never going to happen as money would have to have been found for a replacement. My preferred choice would be Gus Poyet with minimum 5mil to spend, but I know how unlikely that all is
Morning. It all went wrong in January when we sold Becchio, in great form, and bought an injured, ageing alternative. We needed a creative midfielder and didn't get one. Beyond that the team still leaked goals, despite playing a pressure game. The defence were so rigid that any time the ball broke free they didn't react and the other team had a chance. But beyond that, the midfielders are just a bunch of cloggers and the tactic of long ball up the pitch or give it to Byram if he had some space was extremely limited and easy to defend. Quite why you play Diof up front when he has no pace and can't head the ball is baffling. So where it all really went wrong was last year when Leeds appointed Warnock in the first place. Everyone knew he would create a hard tackling team, but I don't think anyone anticipated that he would also be tactically clueless.
Morning all, were Leeds United ever in with a chance of promotion under any manager this season? I don't think so, but do i feel sorry for Warnock, not one bit. He knew the job under Ken Bates would be difficult, did he think the previous regime just sold the clubs best players and replace them with dross for a laugh? He gave up on us as soon as his own ambition (promotion) was unachievable, disgraceful!
Stuart McCall is good value for a couple of quid. Not my first choice though Morning all. Did anyone else notice Rosco giving it the F you to the bench after he scored?
Morning all - It went wrong for him at the very start when the money pot dried up after signing Pearce - Saying that what a waste of Money Pearce seems at the moment along with Dury and a few others. Brown, Tonge, Norris all on the bench, did Warnock really need to sign so many central midfielders when we were and still are crying out for wide players. Swapping Becchio for Morisson was the final nail in the coffin. I think Sky sports reported 11 games played since his departure and the team has managed 10 goals between them.
Did he? I didnt think anyone else noticed. Cant blame him for being frustrated, and it was a great strike as well
Morning all. I agree with Ristac. NR is on a win win situation. No one's expecting very much. So he's more or less free to select who he wants & play a formation he wants. If we lose, heyho he had a go. If we win & play well, it enhances his career prospects. The worst that will happen is we win & all Redfearn gets is to remain in charge of the development squad when the new man takes over.
Hate to say it, but I'm looking at the odds on it being this season. We're unlikely to finish higher than Miwwaww at this rate, and we're only 5 points clear at the moment. Uncle Ken has a bad feeling about the rest of this season.
I wouldn't be too surprised to see Redfearn taking charge of the final 6 or 7 games to be honest. GFH can't rush into appointing the next person. But whoever takes over has to have a plan for progression where next season he has to give some of the kids more of a chance whilst at the same time adding a couple of players to take us forward. We may not go up next season, but we have to at least make the playoffs whilst at the same time develop a style that will put us in good sted for the premiership. It actually won't take too many newcomers. But there will be a fair chunk of older players to move on. One option migt be to have Naylor as defence coach, as much to help some of the kids settle into life with the first team squad as anything else. Having said all of that, the new Manager's first task will be to ensre we keep Byram, Lees, Dawson and all of the rest of our up & coming talent. I can't remember who said it, but we have the best crop of youngsters we've had for ages, not since Lennon & Milner. At least new (& yes thanks to Bates) we don't have to sell to survive. We could even fend off some fairly healthy bids for Byram & Lees, such is the fact that we're somewhat better off than when we couldn't afford the uplift in Lennon's cotract. Heyho, we move on to Charlton & a new era. Keep the faith one and all. MOT
Spot on ristac. Warnock DID have money to spend - admittedly not a lot - but enough to waste on Pearce (has he ever had a good game for us?, Morison, Varney, Austin, Habibou etc. He also bought Drury, Hall and Tonge and hardly played them. He spent as least £2.5m on transfer fees and more on wages. And why he failed to buy any wingers (except Hall) when the team was crying out for width is beyond me.
Think it's unfair to apportion blame to Warnock for the signing of Habibou for example, who although has been a waste, however that is the culture the board has created (or the previous one-KEN BATES), promotion at all costs, so if you can't afford a better signing you may as well gamble the rest of your limited funds on Habibou as another option. It was the same with Grayson, used to miss out on first choice signings over the summer, then the window closes, the squad is way off promotion standard, enter Danny Pugh, Mika Vayrynen, Mikael Forssell, etc.
I actually think it will be interesting to see what Austin is like after a proper rest. Remember he completed a full season in another league before coming straight to us. Apart from a break for an injury, he hasn't had any proper rest for over a year. Let's see what he's like next season. On the subject of which, I think a few of Warnock's Vets army will be on their way in the summer. But I really hope Refearn takes a look at Hall & Habibou before consigning both to the waste bin. Neither has so far had much of a look in. If they're not going to get game time or be able to push for a start next season, best to let them go asap.
How is it thanks to Bates we don't have to sell to survive? Only good thing he did was sell up finally, and that took forever because he's a stubborn blameless old ****.
Is Peltier actually worth in the region of £600k to £750k and was/is Kenny any better than Lonergan for the extra it cost us to bring him in? Warnock has spent money but our best defenders seem to have been Byram and Warnock who cost zilch. Yes Peltier at CB seems fine but he was signed as a RB played far too many games at LB - all bad decisions by Warnock.
