Just seen this great poll on the sky sports website for the greatest ever PFA player of the year, there are 4 different pots, that are determined by the era, thot you would all like to vote for the greatest player to grace the English game, what a season he had in 1997/8, I can't remember seeing such consistent brilliance in one season. Those were the days we'll never forget. http://www1.skysports.com/pfa/28573
Damn right he should. Bergkamp was unreal in that season. Already voted for him, but with there are so many Man Utd 'fans' out there, so therefore one of their players should be odds on to win that poll.
yes the same thing happened with the goal of the premier league era, bergkamp came second for his goal against Newcastle in 2002, and rooney came first for that overhead kick against city that actually came of his shin. No a hope in hell that rooney goal was even close to the same level of brilliance than the bergkamp Newcastle goal.
@WengersOptician, itw not even about who has the most fans! Suarez was winning the 2011 player of the year poll & then there was a technical error everytime you voted for Suarez but the rest were fine & you could still vote for them? That meant Nani ended up with more votes than him! They backtracked & said Suarez had won but HAD to also say Nani had overtaken him. They manipulate every poll on there to suit themselves. What the people voting think doesn't interest them.
As of now Go the "Flying Dutchman" or is that non.............. Paul McGrath 5.9% Eric Cantona 20.3% Alan Shearer 16.7% Les Ferdinand 0.5% Dennis Bergkamp 40.2% David Ginola 3.7% Roy Keane 8.3% Teddy Sheringham 0.9% Ruud van Nistelrooy 3.6%
Only one winner for me. There are a lot of United plastics of there but that might be a bad thing as it will spread the vote as there are so many United players in there. There are also a lot of United haters and real football fans hence why Bergkamp is winning. To come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a GOTM poll says it all. What he did to Dabizas is the greatest piece of skill I've seen which even surpassed Matt Elliott. Arsenak's best ever player IMO
Do you actually believe that Sky have nothing better to do than fix the daily polls they put up on their site?
No, I don't believe they have anything better to do. Sky are just an extension of system, they brainwash, skew public perception just like anyone else. Or are you forgetting Sky's mission to make sure Giggs got that award in 2009? It's a horrifying fact that most football fans experience now comes from watching it on Sky and TV broadcasters, therefore the opinion of Hansen/Lawro and co is probably the opinion of many if not most. Do you really think many football fans would know about Spurs of the 60s, or even Chelsea late 60s/early 70s? All they hear about is Liverpool's illustrious past and how "great" United are and "always have been" ITV rigged voting and when rumours surfaced the reaction was akin to yours. "They've got better things to do" etc. Actually they don't, it's their job.
lol, Bergkamp is way ahead, but I doubt it's because it's Arsenal fans just going on a charge, you look at most names on that list, and other than Cantona, none come close to Bergkamp.
I remember that funnily enough. The only people that fixed it were members of a popular Liverpool forum and anyone they could get to tag along. Using proxies to inundate it with votes...
