Was it just me or was anyone else embarrassed when watching MOTD on Saturday and at the of the highlights it zoomed in on a fan chanting "We are staying up, say we are staying up?" It struck me that non Saints fans will feel we're a little bit desperate! Yes, it was a big win and yes, it will no doubt help maintain or Prem League status but do we really need to be singing this? We're not embroiled in a relegation battle, in fact even before this game most of us were looking forwards, not backwards down the table. Come on people, let's have some positivity in our chanting, especially when the cameras are right on us!
We are in a relegation battle.... we'd be 1 point above the drop without that win, and without the last two, we'd be in it. We're certainly not out of it.
At this point in the season, I would rather be singing 'we are staying up' than 'we're Champions of Europe, we'll sing it till May'.
I just think most of us would be pretty surprised if we went down this year. Not saying its not possible, but to me singing that song when most of us are confident that we won't be relegated just doesn't fit. (Not getting involved in the 'cursing things' argument!) Each to their own but you won't catch me singing that. Having been a season ticket holder for many years I've sung it a lot back in the day, but this season just feels different. Agree or not, I still found it cringeworthy having it aired on MOTD for all to see!
Strange thread, of course we are involved in a relegation battle. If, god forbid we lose to Nigel's new mob next week and all our rivals win, then we are firmly back in the mix. Think we are all feeling confident, mainly because there is a great buzz about all things Saints related and more importantly we are playing well and can beat anyone.
This was the result that has given most of us confidence that we will be staying up, hence the chant.
Well I know more than you, that's for damn sure. Still, I'm sure there are plenty of things I don't know. Surely even you can see that your comment itself is the latest in a line of tragic, cringeworthy hyperboles.
I'm not convinced it's "damn sure" that you know more than me, the usual words of wisdom you come out with tend to be almost as bullshit as mine.
