Actually I take that back about di Canio being merely a hot headed buffoon A Swindon fan on a SAFC forum writes: hope you don’t mind a Swindon fan coming onto your site, but I really envy you having got Di Canio as your new coach. He came to us two years ago when we were rock bottom and raised the whole club, staff, players, fans and town to highs that had for many never been experienced before. Ignore all the stuff about his politics; if it exists we never saw it. What we did see was a man of passion, a man who wears his heart on his sleeve, a man who is a hard task master who believes in supreme fitness and will train his players for seven days a week if needs be. A man who works into the small hours watching videos of the opposing team so as to prepare his players for the next match. Certainly you will be heading for a roller coaster of a ride as he speaks his mind and pulls no punches, if a player gets it wrong or does not pull his weight he will let them know about it and the rest of the world whilst about it. If a player does not have his heart fully in playing for your club, then they are out, no matter who they are, reputations mean nothing. You will find a man who recognises how important fans are and will wait until every player has acknowledged the fans and left the field before coming out to salute you. You will have people who say they will stop going to matches because he has arrived, that though is their choice and to be honest they will be the losers. The pundits will give you a load of waffle, but the only ones who can tell you what great times lay ahead of you are us Swindon fans who have had the Di Canio experience. Just enjoy it.
What for someone who has hit 9 goals in 15 games. Apparently he only wanted to go to a club that has won a major trophy. If you lot are slating Pearson so much, why were you all so upset when he left?? Duh
I'm surprised he didn't go for a team that really has won a truly major trophy like the Fa Cup - I'm sure Clapham Rovers, Old Carthusians or Wanderers would have loved to sign him.
Yeah but I wish Fraizer Campbell was still there, as much as I like the lad as a footballer I'd love to see his reaction after Di Canio had kicked him up the arse
FFS, you still don't get it do you It wasn't about the fact that he had left, it was the way in which he did it, and very shortly he's about to experience karma for his disgraceful actions
Some of us weren't. The one's who were had basically been conditioned to think he was a good manager by Hull FC owner Adam Pearson. We were constantly told the "drop down the divisions myth" and other such stories, which were basically excuses for Nigel's poor performances. If people started questioning NP's position then another story about the "previous regime" would come out, so the people would redirect their anger. NP benefitted from having a PR guru as his "Director of Football Operations", he was that focused on making himself look good that it was detrimental the club, and kept Nigel in the job for as long as he wanted despite him not doing a very good job here. If he hadn't joined you guys I've no doubt the Allams would have sacked him when they finally got sick of AP's bollocks anyway.
Er, no, it would have been for the money. Why on Earth would what you won in the past have any effect on who you bring in? Do you think Forest sign their players on the basis of winning the European Cup half a lifetime ago? Or Ipswich for winning the UEFA Cup in the early 80's? Get a grip. And barely anybody was upset about Pearson leaving, he'd got us into a good position but he was quickly forgotten when a hometown hero took over. Then we appointed an even better gaffer this season, sit second in the table (with the potential to go seven points clear tomorrow) with a much better squad than you and that cost less than yours did. The last two years I spent in Leicester I had to endure the bollocks of unrealistic and over confident Leicester fans, each season seeing you brag about your spending power and how you are a sleeping giant. Well, wake the **** up then. You may well be a PL club in waiting, but you'll be waiting a lot longer than us.
I have to agree with TWF here. Pearson is very limited and reached his full potential here with us. A job like Barnsley would suit him far better. I think whether Leicester came in for him or not, he was on borrowed time before the Allams got rid of him and got a manager or genuine quality in, and Leicester just did us a huge favour by paying us for the priveledge of taking our trash out.
Believe it or not, not everyone hangs on every last word of those post match interviews. I catch the odd one as I do the phone ins, but by and large they're PR exercises with very little of interest in them.
