Then I will do anything required to get onto the pitch and break his arm if he tries another fascist salute whilst operating under the colours of our club <party>

    No QWOP, it wasn't.

But it was still totalitarianism and anyone who spoke out was imprisoned, put in a concentration camp, or murdered.

As a Sunderland fan I do not want Di Canio as our manager, and I will never, ever join in singing his name at games (not that my little protest means much). Won't stop me supporting the team and getting to as many matches as possible. Just I do not like fascists.

One that doesn't have racist leanings... Yeah.

You really need to read up on what Italian fascism is if you want to hold this conversation.

    stronzo!
Suggest you go to the next match between Ascoli and Lazio(could be a long wait)F*cking terrifying-easily influenced youths(many thousands) in paramilitary clothes doing a "Roman salute".The Ascoli fans cheered Di Canio at half time. The plonker warmed up in front of the home fans .IMO a very dangerous man.

Death disco. You want to be careful not to believe all you read about Italian fascists. They are generally daft lads looking for a simple answers to difficult questions.
Can you list any successful fascist states where absolute power did not corrupt everything.
The attention seeking idiot will now be subjected to a barrage of attention he was to thick to foresee.
You want to support him feel free.Just would not tell your family-keep it on the web-good lad

I can't name any successful communist states either but I'd have one as our manager. My family are mostly Sunderland fans and they will be backing him too.

Absolutely spot on FTM Dave - I'm glad to find that there are some of us SAFC fans with the same view. I'm going to the Chelsea match but I will not bust a gut to follow the lads under Di Canio's reign. I'll still always route for us like I have since 1989 (when I 'discovered' football and decided to support Sunderland). I'll go to the odd game down South (near to where I live) and but I'll be supporting my local non-league side as much as ever - going to every home game and watching SKY highlights of the lads. I'll be thinking twice about shelling out the big bucks to get up to Sunderland thats for sure.

Di Canio is terrifically exciting as a boss - good point was made by a poster who said that we have rarely ever had a striker as a manager. Who was the last one in recent times? You would hope that this would bolster our attacking play which looked completely unorganised under O'Neill.

However, Di Canio's political views stick in the throat. I will not back anybody just so my team can get three points. In the same way as I did not back Chopra or Clark when he became skipper. Ellis Short has pissed all over his own hands. Miliband and the GMB Union have come down hard against Di Canio...where does this leave 'Invest in Africa' as our major backer?

I'd suggest that you probably need to do the same. It's fine if his political leanings are not your concern....it would be wrong however to pretend "Italian Fascism" is some kind of "cosy, less dangerous" form of fascism. Just because fascism is deeper rooted into Italian society than it is in other countries (thankfully this one included) it doesn't make it any less nasty and downright rascist...especially if you happen to be Jewish.

That's just it. I don't want the conversation. I come on a football forum to talk football not politics.

He's hired to manage the team. Beyond that I don't care too much but if people are going to slate him they need to know what they're talking about. Most don't seem to.

Its fair enough if the politics don't interest you but your assertion that Italian fascism doesn't have rascist leanings suggests it's you who needs to do the learning (or don't pretend you know all about Italian Fascism). Trust me when I say there are differing degrees of fascism within all countries but there are plenty of Italian fascists who'd be only too happy to see some ethnic groups wiped off the face of the planet. Di Canio (I like to think) doesn't hold such extreme views but you don't have to do much research to know plenty of Italian fascists do hold views like that.
